Yarn Bombing Returns to Formby Village!

Yes, it's official! Our talented yarn bombers will once again transform Formby Village on Saturday, 8th June to celebrate International Yarn Bombing Day 2024. Now in its third year, this beloved event promises to be bigger and better than ever, bringing a splash of color and creativity to our Formby streets.

Organised by Imagine Formby, a spokesperson said: "For the past year, our dedicated knitters and crocheters have been hard at work, creating a stunning array of yarn art to surprise and delight everyone. The preparations have been shrouded in secrecy, but we can promise that this year’s themes will be spectacular and unlike anything you've seen before. The excitement is palpable as we anticipate what our talented community has in store for us."

"The yarn bombers will start their day bright and early at 4am, meticulously setting up their incredible displays to ensure everything is in place by the time the shops open at 8:30am. These early risers will cover trees, lampposts, benches, and other public structures with their colorful knitted and crocheted creations, turning Formby Village into a vibrant, whimsical wonderland."

"In addition to enjoying the colorful decorations, visitors can stop by A Modern Yarn, where our yarn bombers will be stationed. Here, you can meet the artists behind the yarn bombs and see their work up close. Special thanks to Michaela for providing the table and chairs once again! The team will be available for a friendly chat, and they would love to share stories about their projects and inspirations."

There will also be handmade items for sale, with every penny going towards buying wool for next year’s creations. This is a wonderful opportunity to purchase unique, handcrafted items while supporting a great cause. A donations basket will also be available for anyone who wishes to contribute balls of wool. When you see this year’s displays, you'll understand just how much wool they go through!"

Our organiser is available for interviews and can offer a sneak peek into this year’s themes. For those interested in the behind-the-scenes efforts and the creative process, this is a chance to learn more about the dedication and passion that goes into yarn bombing."

If the weather forecast predicts poor conditions, the event will be postponed to Saturday, 15th June, to ensure everyone can enjoy the display in its full glory.

Yarn bombing is the action of covering objects or structures in public places with decorative knitted or crocheted material. It has become increasingly popular as a form of street art. It’s a fun, creative way to brighten up our surroundings and bring the community together.

This year's yarn bomb promises to do just that, spreading joy and sparking conversations among residents and visitors alike.

We can’t wait to see you all there. Let’s fill the village with smiles, chuckles, and lots of "oooooo’s" as we celebrate this wonderful street art tradition. Whether you’re a local or just visiting, be sure to take a stroll through Formby Village on the 8th to experience the magic of yarn bombing firsthand.
