Upcoming Military Aviation Exercise at RAF Woodvale involving low level flying from 10am to 2am for five days

Formby Bubble would like to inform you about a scheduled Military Aviation Exercise that will take place at RAF Woodvale from 11th to 15th November 2024. This exercise is an essential training operation for the armed forces, and we appreciate your understanding and support as it unfolds.

During this period, you may notice increased air traffic and noise due to the participation of up to eight helicopters. The aircraft involved will include:

• Merlin Mk4/Mk2:

Known for its versatility and advanced capabilities, this helicopter is widely used in transport and support roles.

• Chinook CH47:

Recognisable by its twin-rotor design, the Chinook is a heavy-lift helicopter capable of carrying troops and equipment in various environments.

• Wildcat HMA:

A modern and agile helicopter, the Wildcat HMA plays a vital role in reconnaissance, search and rescue, and anti-surface warfare.

To meet specific training objectives, the aircrew will conduct both daytime and night time flights, operating from approximately 10:00am to 2:00am each day. This schedule includes low-level formation flying, which is essential for building operational skills. The training team has planned flight times and routes with great care to minimise disruptions to residents as much as possible.

“RAF Woodvale will host a Military Aviation Exercise 11-15 November 2024. Up to eight helicopters, including Merlin Mk4/Mk2, Chinook CH47 and Wildcat HMA will be operating daily between approx. 1000-0200 Local. In order to meet strict training objectives, the aircrew are required to fly day and night in low level formation however, flight times and routing has been carefully planned to minimise disruption to the local area and it’s residences throughout the period as best possible. The continued support and assistance from the community is very much appreciated in facilitating this essential Defence Task.”
