Travellers Depart Formby to relocate in Southport
After three weeks of occupying various sites in Formby, the group of travellers has finally vacated the area, moving onto Preston New Road in Southport. The relocation occurred at approximately 7:30pm this evening, Wednesday 26th June, when the travellers cut down wooden posts using a chainsaw. Police were present at the scene to monitor the situation.
The travellers left Watchyard Lane fields just after 6:30pm tonight, Wednesday, 26th June. Initially, they attempted to move onto Deansgate Lane, but the fields were occupied with junior football training. A large grey pick-up truck was seen parked across the footpath, seemingly waiting for the fields to clear. However, Sefton Council had stationed a guard at the location, and police arrived at Watchyard Lane, potentially to redirect any travellers attempting to return.
The travellers’ presence in Formby began three weeks ago, starting at Bills Lane, then moving to Duke Street Park, and finally to Watchyard Lane fields. Each site required significant clean-up efforts by the council after the travellers departed.
The aftermath of the occupation at Watchyard Lane fields highlights the reality of the situation. While rubbish was placed in bin bags, the area was still left in a state of disarray, necessitating further clean-up operations.
Local authorities and residents are now focusing on restoring the affected areas and ensuring that the fields can return to their normal use without further disruption.
Formby Bubble will continue to provide updates on this situation as more information becomes available.
