Tragic fatal Dog Attack in Formby Area on Christmas Eve
On Christmas Eve, a devastating incident occurred in the Harington Road area of Formby. An elderly woman, in her late 80s, was walking her 13-year-old greyhound, who was well-known and loved in the local community, when a dog described as a “mastiff-type” attacked. Tragically, the greyhound sustained fatal injuries and was declared deceased upon arrival at the veterinary clinic.
The mastiff’s owner did assist at the scene and transported the injured greyhound to the vet; however, this tragedy highlights a critical need for responsible dog ownership. The victim’s owner, who also cares for her sister, is deeply distraught by the loss of her gentle companion—a loss that was entirely preventable.
Raising Awareness for Public Safety.
This heartbreaking incident could have had even more severe consequences if a child or another vulnerable individual had been involved. The police are now investigating the matter, and it serves as a stark reminder for dog owners to ensure their pets are securely contained and under control at all times.
By raising awareness, we aim to prevent further tragedies. If the dog involved in this attack has a history of aggression, steps such as proper training or muzzling could mitigate future risks. The safety of pets, children, and the wider community must be a priority.
Let this incident be a call to action for all dog owners to act responsibly and ensure their pets are not a danger to others. Our thoughts are with the elderly lady and everyone affected by this terrible event.
