The first weekend of matches went well for Formby Junior Sports Club and here is Franks Report…

It was the first weekend of matches for Formby Junior Sports Club’s Representative teams. For the Inter Club Section it was another very successful Saturday with many new members joining in all age groups. Before all the matches and coaching sessions there was minute’s silence impeccably observed in memory of the Queen.

REPRESENTATIVE TEAM MATCHES

FJSC’s Under 13’s Saturday team played Churchtown FC in the Hightown Junior League. After nineteen minutes Isaac Loxham-Keenan on his debut gave FJSC the lead. Max Ryan doubled the Under 13’s lead after an assist from Henry Jones. In the second half Charlie Garvey made it 3 nil with a curling shot.

On Sunday FJSC Under 13 Black were in action again, this time away at Burscough FC. There were eleven different scorers in FJSC’s 15 nil win. Freddie Garvey led the way with a hat trick. There were two goals each for BeratUlusoy and Noah Gibson. Also on the scoresheet with one goal each were Isaac Burns, James Cook, Charlie Garvey, Daniel Hill, Isaac Loxham-Keenan, Luca Massey, Thomas Prior and Charlie Taylor. Man of the match was Luca Massey.

FJSC Under 12 Black opened their campaign with a tough game at home against HeskethColts. Formby started on the front foot with Abe Rice testing the away teams’ defence when running through the centre and then Arron Pickard playing a long pass forward that Thomas Donnelly was just unable to get on the end of. Against the early run of play Hesketh broke forward and scored with a well taken half volley that went in at the far post. FJSC Under 12’s responded strongly, firstly with Ollie Dean hitting a freekick just wide of the left post. Sam Uttley then won a challenge on the halfway line which started an attack as he passed to Ollie Dean who drove forward to the edge of the box, where he found Thomas Donnelly on the wing, and he cut inside and curled his shot just wide of the far post. Some excellent interplay moments later between Ollie Dean, Henry Renton, and Josh Kearney resulted in the ball being played into Thomas Donnelly who was then fouled on the edge of the penalty area and saw his resultant freekick well saved by the Hesketh Colts goalkeeper. The first half finished 1-0 to Hesketh but FJSCwere very unfortunate to be down at the break.

Hesketh Colts started the second half quickly and FJSC were thankful to their goalkeeper Riley Higgs who made a fine save to prevent them falling further behind. Formby defended well for the remainder of the game and looked to hit Hesketh on the break at every opportunity with half chances coming and going, and both Samuel Lewis and Luke Patel testing the Hesketh defenders. As the game entered the final moments Formby pushed players forward looking for an equaliser and won a succession of corners from which Hesketh struggled to clear their lines. From one such clearance Henry Cowpland played the ball into Luke Patel’s path and while his shot was blocked, the ball fell invitingly for Charlie Knowles who was positioned on the edge of the penalty area, and he scored with a fine strike into the top corner of the goal, much to the delight of his teammates. There was barely enough time to restart the game before the referee blew his final whistle to end an excellent game in a 1-1 draw. It was a very good overall team performance. Man of the Match was awarded to Charlie Knowles for his overall play and a fine last-minute goal.

FJSC Under 11 Whites playing their first official match against a strong Redgate team. After conceding a number of first half goals there was a much better second half displayfrom the Under 11’s with Lucas Lewis scoring from the penalty spot. There were many positives taken from the match and much was learnt from the experience. It was a good effort from all the boys.

FJSC Under 10 White kicked off at home against Southport and Ainsdale Amateurs. The game started with both teams creating chances. FJSC eventually got their passing and movement working which led to a clinical goal taken by Isaac Jones. A header from Archie Weir followed after a brilliantly delivered corner from Oscar Buch-Platt. FJSC extended their lead by half time with a further goal from Archie Weir and a lovely team move finished off by Zac Hooson-Jones.

The second half saw more of the same with FJSC being the stronger team and adding further goals from Isaac Jones and ArchieWeir. It was an excellent start to the seasonwith some very good performances, particularly at the back from Noah Lace and Reece Bagley. There was also plenty of energy and creativity in midfield from Archie Weir and man of the match Oscar Buch-Platt.

FJSC Under 9 ‘s Saturday team got the season off to a great start with a narrow win over Aintree Villa in the Hightown League. Formby went ahead with goals from KaydenWatters and Diego Funes-Cervera both assisted following great build up play in the midfield from Josh Halpin and Jaiden Crosby. Timmy Richards came close to adding to the scoreline before the break but was denied by a great save from the Aintree goalkeeper. At the start of the second half FJSC had to withstand sustained pressure but superb defending from Josh Tallon and Isaac Rimmerkept it tight for as long as they could before Aintree pulled two goals back. Aintree continued to push forward but Thomas Crutchley, making his debut in goal kept the scores level. In the final ten minutes FJSCstarted to dominate again and went close before Kayden Watters scored his second goal of the match to secure a very slender victory.

FJSC Under 9 White carried on their good form from the previous day with another good team display against Southport FC. DiegoFunes- Cervera scored a first half hat trick and Chris Clarke scored a brace to put FJSC in control at the break. They were aided by masterful midfield performances from Josh Halpin, Josh Tallon and Jaiden Crosby. Southport came into the game in the second half but some good defending from Clayton Gilbertson and Isaac Rimmer made sure thatchances were limited. Goalkeeper Thomas Crutchley when needed made some fine saves to ensure a clean sheet. Josh Halpin got on the scoresheet and Diego Funes-Cervera added to his tally with two more goals. Timmy Richards and Hugh Slattery both had strong games and were both unlucky not to score. Thanks to Southport for a good game.

FJSC U9 Reds played Southport and Ainsdale Amateurs. It started with the two teams quite evenly matched . FJSC Reds opening the scoring when Zac McHugh scored direct from a corner in the first half. After half time S. and A. Amateurs looking the more likely teamto score. Some resolute defending by Mason Todd and Joel Craven and fine goalkeeping by James Hannan in the first half and Campbell Woodcock after the break kept their opponentsat bay. S.and A. kept the pressure up and eventually came out winners. FJSC Reds, in a new formation, gave a good account of themselves with good league debuts from Oliver Crouch and Tommy Collins. Joel Wright, Isaac Pepper and Tom Murphy also provided tireless efforts and running in the middle of the park in their new roles. Man of the match was Tommy Collins.

FJSC Under 8 White started the season with an impressive team performance against Redgate Black. Man of the match Jack Haggart opened the scoring and went on to score five more goals to add to his all-action performance. There were further great strikes from Seb Hodgson who struck an unstoppable free kick from distance, Henry Williamsonalso scored with a lethal finish into the bottom corner and a goal from Isaac Higgins wholobbed the keeper from close to the halfway line. The Club would like to thank JLD Gas for kindly sponsoring the new kit which can be seen on the photograph above.

FJSC Under 8 Black playing as a team for the first time were at home to Southport Athletic Reds. FJSC conceded three goals but were unlucky not to score on a number of occasions. All the boys played really well and thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

FJSC Under 7 White team were playing together for the first time. FJSC took the lead with Charlie Vernon scoring the opening goal. It was an end to end very exciting encounter. FJSC were awarded a penalty and up stepped Jack Brown to score with an outstanding finish. Southport Athletic scoring twice to level the score. After some outstanding play from FJSC there was a break down the wingwhich allowed Oliver Parrish to score his first goal. Charles Fazakerley scored just before half time to put FJSC further ahead. It was goals galore in the second half and it became 8-8 with little time left. In a nail biting finaleJack Brown composed himself to score the winning goal. Otto Johnson and Austin Faraday also defended well for the whole team with some amazing tackling.

All of the boys played brilliantly with a decision for man of the match being decided by the referee ,which was not an easy task to do, but with Jack Brown scoring five goals he was awarded man of the match.
