The first quarter of the season has been an excellent one for Formby Junior Sports Club

The first quarter of the season has been an excellent one for Formby Junior Sports Club.  The club membership has now reached three hundred children from four to fifteen years of age with twenty- three Representative teams and there is a thriving and very well attended Inter Club Section.

FJSC’s Under 15 and Under 12’s are currently top of their respectiveSaturday divisions and FJSC Under 12 BlacksSunday team are also in pole position as well.  Also doing very well is  the FJSC Under 13 Saturday team and the Under 12 Whites whoare both second in their leagues.  The younger teams have also started well with FJSC Under 10 Black leading the way having only lost once.  All the newly formed teams this season are improving with every outing and are enjoying their football.

As half term reports go Formby Junior Sports Club has made a very encouraging start to the season.

REPRESENTATIVE TEAM MATCHES

FJSC Under 15 Black Saturday team played Claybrow FC in a Hightown League fixtureand took the lead after eighteen minutes when Luca Massey scored  after an assist from Archie Ogden.  Early in the second half Luca Massey scored again with a header from a Charlie Garvey corner.   Claybrowimmediately pulled a goal back from a free kick.  FJSC then scored the goal of the match when man of the match Luca Massey intercepted the ball, released a pass down the right wing for Archie Ogden to centre from the byline to Isaac Loxham-Keenan who finished a wonderful move in style.  Charlie Garvey completed the scoring with a penalty for a hard fought 4-1 victory.

On Sunday the Under 15’s continued their fine form with a 7-3 win against FC Northern in the Tuebrook League.  Northern opened the scoring.  From a Berat Ulusoy corner FJSC drew level when Daniel Hill scored with a spectacular scissor kick.  From another BeratUlusoy corner Freddie Garvey scored with a bullet header to give his team a 2-1 lead.   After half time FJSC began to gain control andmore goals were added.   Cole Heron scored twice and Charlie Garvey, Daniel Hill and Berat Ulusoy all scored one goal each.  To their credit FC Northern scored two late goals in this ten goal match.

FJSC Under 14 Blacks played against high flying Wigan Junior Latics in the Skelmersdale League and whilst they gave a very good account of themselves, they suffered a 7-1 defeat.

The game started brightly with both teams having good possession but as Wigan pressed high FJSC found it difficult to advance up the pitch and confusion in defence led to the opening goal. FJSC then created an excellent chance as Ethan Richmond found Ethan Murphy with a fantastic cross field pass, and Ethan’s shot beat the goal-keeper but just went wide. Wigan then increased their lead following an unlucky deflection before adding two more before half time. The Blacks suffered some injuries during the first half which required several players playing out of position.

At the beginning of the second half Wigan scored again, and then had a penalty brilliantly saved by Joe Norrie who got a strong hand to the ball and turned it round the post, after which FJSC rallied and had a good period of possession, creating a couple of opportunities. A goal came via a set piece, as Ethan Richmond swung in a corner from the right, which Patrick Fleming got to first and laid it off to Ollie Dean who struck a low drive into the corner of the net. Two late goals added to the score line for Wigan.

Man of the match was awarded to Joe Norrie for his confident display in goal and excellent saves and distribution from the back.

FJSC Under 13 Black lost 2-1 to Crosby Stuart in a very close match. Ben Harris gave FJSC the lead after good work on the flanks.  Crosby equalised quickly and then went into the lead.   FJSC had a flurry of chances but could not find the back of the net to earn a  draw.  It was the team’s first defeat of the season.   Lathom Joinery and Construction Ltd Players of the Match were Joe Tucker and Jenson Heron.  A big thank you to SebBurdett- Clarke for sacrificing a start up front and replacing goalie Ben Gregory who picked up an injury in the warm up.

FJSC Under 12 Black started their Hightown League match against Altown United on an unbeaten twelve game run and soon got into a good rhythm. An early disallowed goal for FJSC did not deter the team as they pushed on but on ten minutes Altown United took the lead via a good cross from the right wing which saw the ball deflected into the FJSC net for a 1 nil Altown United lead. The Blacks pushed on and had the better of the first half and a good turn and shot from Charlie Richardson drew a good save from the goalkeeper but Ben Webster followed up and made the score 1-1 with a cool finish. Just before half time a good run into the area by Ellis Coyne resulted in a penalty being awarded after he was brought down.  The spot kick was put just wide.

The second half saw FJSC kick on and after a succession of corners, a Louis O’Connor cross saw Sylvan O’Hara score with a bullet header to give FJSC a deserved 2-1 lead.  Finally, a good interception from Caden Walker and a one-two with Ralph Renton gave CadenWalker his chance to continue his run into the area and dribble around a number of players before coolly slotting home to make the final score 3-1 to FJSC. Joint Players of the Match were Louis O’Connor and Ben Webster.

FJSC Under 11 Blacks followed up their recent day to remember at Southport FC when they were mascots by being runners-up in the half term Sparta Tournament held in St Helen’s during the week.

FJSC Under 11 Blacks played a very good 11 Soccer Red team.  The boys tried hard but their opponents were much the better team on the day.  Man of the Match was Ben Robertson.

FJSC Under 10 Black played away against acompetitive Southport and Ainsdale Blue team in the Craven Minor League. Formby were comfortable in defence and were counter attacking quickly and effectively, causing constant problems for the S & A back line. After a number of impressive attacks, the Blacks took the lead as Alex Rowley’s hard work was rewarded as he latched on to an Idris Jones pass, and drove at the S & A defence to finish powerfully leaving the keeper with no chance. This trend continued throughout the first half, with the back line of Isaac Melton, Mason Nisted, Idris Jones and Asher Fields comfortably keeping S & A at bay. FJSC would break through with some excellent wing play from Jack Hansen. Ethan Catleugh had a couple of excellent chances repelled by the S & A keeper, and it was their keeper’s heroics that kept the game to just 1-0 at half time.

S & A never gave up and scored a quick double to take the lead early in the second half. This only galvanised the Blacks as they worked together to push for an equaliser, with Idris Jones shooting just wide from distance, and Ashley Jones nearly recreated a Beckham-esque lob from the half way line. Max Byford pulled off a couple of amazing saves to keep the Blacks in the game, and eventually the resilience and pressure from the Blacks was too much for S & A as FJSC converted a well worked corner routine with Asher Fields sweeping the ball home from an Ashley Jones cross.

Finally, Ashley Jones chased down what looked like a lost cause, was fouled just outside the box, and he squeezed home the resulting free kick with the last kick of the game to secure a deserved 3-2 victory in a thrilling encounter.  See the photograph above of the FJSC Under 10 Blacks who are having a very good season to date.

FJSC Under 9 Whites had a tough gameagainst a well organised Southport Trinity team.   The boys started slowly with an early goal going to Southport. As the game went on the Whites were trying  hard to score an equaliser with each attempt matched byconfident saves from the Southport keeper. FJSC kept pushing but were unable to break Southport down and against the run of play Southport managed to score on numerous occasions. Just before the break Harry Hughes managed to score with a brilliant effort from just outside Southport penalty area.

The second half started with FJSC on the front foot with some excellent team play from NoahMartin-Gargon, Austin Faraday, Charlie Ormesher, Oliver Parrish and Elliott Dyment.  The few chances created were thwarted bysuperb displays from Southport defenders.

Charlie Vernon managed to get on the end of a well taken deflected shot from Charlie Ormesher finding the net to narrow the deficit. The Whites were unlucky on many occasions with the score not really reflecting the effort of the team.  Man of the Match went to Otto Johnson for never giving up and for his efforts in trying to organise the team going forward vocally.

FJSC Under 9 Blacks played Redgate Rovers Black.  In yet another spirited display, the newly-formed home team faced a further tough test, falling to a well-organized visiting side. Despite the scoreline, the team showed remarkable heart, fighting hard for every ball and showing flashes of skill and determination. With each passing minute, their confidence grew with the defence showing signs of resilience, and with several impressive clearances and tackles from the backline.

Though they struggled to find the net, the FJSC boys created a few promising chances, showing potential in attack and glimpses of teamwork that promise to blossom as they gain experience together. Midfielders worked tirelessly to close down the opposition, demonstrating grit that kept spirits high throughout.

It was another valuable learning experience for the young squad, who left the field with smiles, ready to build on their performance. The result may not reflect it, but the foundations are firmly in place for a positive future.

FJSC Under 8 White were in action against Southport and Ainsdale Reds.  S & A started strongly and took an early lead, but FJSC fought back with real confidence.  Captain Logan Haggart leading from the front was involved in setting up both of FranklinChignell’s goals which helped FJSC take a 2-1 lead at half time with a Man of the Matchperformance in defence from MaxwellRathbone.

The second half performance was the best of the season with Henry Ade and Luke Clarkeadding ten goals between them and being  joint Players of the Match.  There was some brilliant running, tackling and passing from Ben Donnelly and Thomas North in midfield. Lucas Byrne showed his versatility by playing in goal, defence and as a striker during the game. FJSC have now won their last three matches.

FJSC Under 7 Blacks produced a very pleasing team performance against Southport Trinity.  The passing is improving each week. Man of the Match with a hat trick was Ollie Jones.  Harry Brown and Theo

Thomas were also scorers.  Also deserving special mention was Dylan Woods who was excellent in midfield and who started off a lot of attacks.
