Storm Damage Forces Closure of Lifeboat Road Boardwalk which will remain closed for a few more weeks
The Lifeboat Road boardwalk in Formby has been temporarily closed following significant storm damage. Although the boardwalk may appear intact at first glance, a closer inspection revealed that the structural posts supporting it are compromised.
The National Trust is committed to keeping the public informed about the ongoing repair efforts for this vital access route.
Key steps taken so far include:
- Assessment: Structural engineers have evaluated the damage and determined the extent of the necessary repairs.
- Planning: A detailed repair plan has been developed to ensure the boardwalk's safety.
- Funding: Funding for the repair work has been secured.
- Materials: Timber for the initial repairs has been ordered.
Looking ahead, the repair process involves several critical steps:
- Mid-June: Contractors will join rangers on site to remove the damaged sections of the boardwalk. These sections will be transported to a workshop for repairs.
- Subsequent Phases: Additional timber and materials will be ordered for further repairs. Specialist joiners will address the structural support posts.
- Final Steps: Once repaired, the sections will be reinstalled and securely attached to the boardwalk base.
The restoration work is expected to take several weeks, and the National Trust apologises for any inconvenience caused. Visitors are advised to use the alternative wheelchair access point at the Sefton Council car park in Ainsdale (PR8 2QA) during this period.
For safety reasons, please follow the posted diversion routes and avoid the boardwalk area. The National Trust will continue to provide updates on the progress of the repairs.
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to restore this cherished part of our coastline.
