Stolen Moped Rider Arrested After Attempting to Flee in Formby

A moped rider who failed to stop for police in Formby ended up in hot water—literally—after officers found him hiding in a brook following a dramatic chase.

The incident unfolded when the rider attempted to evade police by heading down a public footpath near Long Lane off Halsall Lane. Given the risk to pedestrians, officers used Tactical Contact to bring the moped to a stop as safely as possible.
Checks quickly revealed that the moped had been recently stolen, adding further urgency to the situation. The rider, now on foot, tried to escape but was soon tracked down hiding in a nearby brook—soaking wet and out of options.
Police swiftly arrested the rather damp suspect, bringing the incident to a close. The stolen moped has now been recovered.
This is another example of police taking swift action to protect the community, ensuring that stolen vehicles don’t pose a further risk to the public.
