Sefton Council has announced plans to reduce the speed limit on a section of the Formby Bypass from 60mph to 50mph, as part of preparations for the construction of 286 new homes near RAF Woodvale.
The proposed change affects the stretch of the bypass between Woodvale and Freshfield, and would apply in both directions, according to a recent council report. The reduction is being introduced to improve road safety, particularly in relation to a new signalled junction that will be created as part of the housing development.
Sefton Council has emphasised that the lower speed limit is intended to reduce the severity of potential collisions, especially at the new junction which will see an increase in traffic flow once the homes are occupied.
The developer behind the housing project will be responsible for funding both the new junction and the speed limit changes, as part of the planning agreement with the council.
The proposals are part of broader efforts to manage the impact of new developments on local infrastructure and ensure the safety of both drivers and pedestrians in the area.
