Ongoing Efforts to Restore Storm-Damaged Boardwalk at Lifeboat Road
The Lifeboat Road boardwalk, a vital access route to the beach, remains closed as extensive repair work continues following severe storm damage. This week, significant progress has been made with phase 1 of the repairs, thanks to the dedicated efforts of the ranger team and the invaluable support of our regular volunteers. Together, they have been meticulously working to repair the sections of the boardwalk that were removed from the beach due to the damage.
The repair process is methodically divided into three phases to ensure the boardwalk is restored to its former condition and made safe for public use:
Phase 1**: This initial phase involves the ranger team and volunteers repairing the damaged sections that were removed from the beach. Their tireless work and commitment have been crucial in laying the groundwork for the subsequent phases of the repair process.
Phase 2**: Following the completion of phase 1, specialist joiners will begin work on the structural support posts. This phase is critical as it involves ensuring the foundational integrity of the boardwalk, providing the necessary support for the entire structure.
Phase 3**: The final phase will see the repaired sections transported back to the beach, where they will be securely reattached to the boardwalk’s base structure. This phase aims to restore the boardwalk to its full functionality, allowing safe and easy access for all visitors.
The team is working diligently to expedite the repairs and re-open this important access route as soon as possible. While National Trust currently do not have a specific reopening date, it is likely to be a few more weeks.
National Trust spokesperson said: “We appreciate your patience and will keep you updated with regular progress reports.”
“We apologise for any inconvenience this closure may cause to your plans to visit the beach. For those requiring wheelchair access to the same beach, please use the Sefton Council car park at Ainsdale (PR8 2QA), which offers suitable access routes.”
“We thank you for your continued support and understanding during this repair process. For your own safety, we urge you to follow the posted diversion routes and keep away from the boardwalk area until the repairs are fully completed and the route is officially reopened.”
“Your cooperation is greatly appreciated as we work to restore and improve our community spaces.”
