Frank's Report from Formby Junior Sports Club
It was the first weekend of fixtures for Formby Junior Sports Club’s Representative teams. For FJSC’s Under 7 Whites and FJSC Under 8 Reds it was their first ever experience of competitive football. Every team whether win , draw or lose enjoyed their much awaited matches and all made encouraging starts to the 2021-22 season. On the Inter Club front, the coaching sessions and fun games went well and it was again pleasing to see more new boys coming along for the first time.
REPRESENTATIVE TEAMS
FJSC’s young Under 7’s team played Southport and Ainsdale Blues in a thrilling end to end match with eleven goals scored. The two teams played with great enthusiasm and every single player produced maximum effort. Jack Haggart scored a very good hat trick. Harry O’Donnell was also a scorer as was Jack Hansen with a precise lob. Isaac Higgins captained the team on his birthday and there were also pleasing performances from Isaac Ade, Seb Hodgson, Nathan Hyslop, Henry Williamson and Max Byford. The Southport and Ainsdale goalkeeper also deserves special mention for making a number of heroic saves. In a grandstand finish FJSC gained the upper hand with the narrowest of margins. See photograph above.
The FJSC Under 8 Reds team were also playing together for the first time. Their opponents Southport Athletic Whites leapt into a three goal lead by half time but in the second half the Reds came back very strongly in the twelve goal highly entertaining match to nearly level the outcome. There were two goals for Joel Wright and also a brace from Zac McHugh including a great individual goal. Joel Craven also scored and there was some solid team defending and good displays from Tom Murphy, James Hannan and Isaac Pepper.
FJSC Under 16’s drew 3-3 with Southport Trinity. The Under 16’s had most of the possession throughout the match and created a lot of chances. Trinity played well in patches and led 2-1 at half time. The FJSC goals were scored by Luke Honour, Steven Mordaunt and Marc Whitelaw. Stand-in goalkeeper Jack Rummens made a series of excellent saves. Man of the match for his drive and effort was Steven Mordaunt.
FJSC Under 12 Blacks played Shevington a new team to the Craven Minor League. Shevington took the lead just after half time but within two minutes FJSC equalised when Dominic Maxwell scored the first of his two goals from the penalty spot. Within a minute man of the match Dominic Maxwell scored again when he took on six Shevington players to make it 2-1. Charlie Garvey added a third goal with a twenty yard free kick and Archie Ogden made it 4-1.
In the Hightown League on Saturday FJSC Under 12 team was defeated by a very strong L4 team. FJSC played much better in the second half and man of the match was Freddie Garvey.
FJSC Under 11 Blacks were in action against Southport Hesketh Juniors and were playing 9 aside football for the first time. Nathan Ryan, Isaac Dey, Abe Rice, Evan Hughes, Jack Finley, and Josh Kearney all made their FJSC debuts. After Abe Rice had gone close to scoring the Blacks took the lead when a deflected Thomas Donnelly shot went in. Ollie Dean finished well to double FJSC’s lead in the second half. Hesketh pulled one goal back before scoring twice in the last minute. Man of the match was Ollie Dean.
FJSC Under 9’s moved up to 7 aside football and enjoyed the space of the bigger pitch against opponents Hillside Athletic. It was goalless at half time but Hillside scored three quickfire second half goals. Matthew Crutchley made some very good saves in goal. All the new boys in the squad played well. Archie Weir scored. Jacob Davies and Nate Davies defended well and Noah Lace, Rowan Jones and Oscar Buch-Platt all contributed well in their first competitive match. Man of the match Nate Daniels was excellent all game.
FJSC Under 8 Whites played some excellent football with good passing and movement in the match with Redgate Black. Mason Stringer, Thomas Crutchley and Joshua Tallon were all scorers. Joshua Halpin, Diego Funes- Cervera and Jaiden Crosby in midfield were relentless in breaking down play and setting up numerous attacks. Clayton Gilbertson played well in defence in a very good team performance.
FJSC Under 8 Blacks travelled to Southport Trinity Whites. It was an exceptional match with both teams attacking with every opportunity. Trinity scored first before Joseph Kenyon finished off an assist from Finn McDerby. Goalkeeper Harrison Hughes made some heroic saves. Huey Stevenson and Rory Rankin were unlucky not to score. It was a very good team effort with Jack Williams, William Roberts and Oliver Hall-Gleeson all in the thick of the action. With just two minutes remaining Trinity added a second goal.
