Frank’s Report from Formby Junior Sports Club

It was the penultimate weekend of the Formby Junior Sports Club season with only a few Representative teams in action. However for the Inter Club Section it was once again a full programme of coaching followed by fun matches.

On Sunday, FJSC Under 7 Whites saved the best till last, with what was arguably their best team performance of the season against a good Southport Trinity side. Throughout the game FJSC dominated possession and played a positive style of football. As ever Mason Stringer covered the pitch effortlessly in midfield and scored a well- deserved hat trick. Thomas Crutchley was immense when up front scored twice. Josh Tallon had his best game of the season and along with Clayton Gilbertson broke down several attacks. The hard working duo also laid on many chances which led to a number of goals being scored. Benefiting was Joshua Halpin who had another strong game and also scored, along with Diego Funes-Cervera who came on the for the last ten minutes and changed the pace of the game. Jaiden Crosby was solid again and did the simple things well and didn’t put a foot wrong both with and without the ball.

It has been a great season for the talented FJSC Under 7 Whites. The boys have enjoyed all the matches and have developed throughout into a very good team. Pictured above is the very happy squad with end of season trophies. A big thank to the management team of Andy Halpin and Darren Stringer for all their hard work with the boys.

.

FJSC Under 8’s played at home against Southport FC and it was one of the team’s best displays of the season so far. It was a close game in which both teams played some excellent football. There was some excellent goalkeeping in the first half from Matthew Crutchley. It was end to end football. Zac Hooson-Jones pulled a goal back after Southport had taken the lead. As the Under 8’s played better and better goals from Harry McKenna and Harrison Taylor helped level the score. Southport weathered the storm and in the final couple of minutes scored again. It was a very good effort. Man of the match for his super all round performance was Gregory Houghton.

INTER CLUB FOOTBALL

The boys in every group have responded extremely well in all the coaching sessions throughout the season. Each Saturday there has been an improvement in skills and then in the quality of the matches which follow. Many parents have commented about this. Lively and innovative coaching drills with ladders, hurdles, different size goals and layouts have resulted in great enthusiasm. Well done the

coaches and keep it up boys. Last Saturday there was also a mini Euros Competition which caught everyone’s interest including the spectators.

SATURDAY’S SCORERS

Amongst the scorers last Saturday were Finley Duffin, Jacob Givin, Jack Haggart, Ethan Catleugh, Walter Ramsdale, Sebastian Hodgson, Finley Cregeen, Jack Hansen, Henry Williamson, Joseph Kenyon, Huey Stevenson, Finn McDerby and Abe Rice.
