Frank Rourke's Report from Formby Junior Sports Club

A few Formby Junior Sports Club Representative team matches were unfortunately cancelled at the weekend due to half term holidays and illness. However the boys in the teams that did manage to play enjoyed their matches and there were also some excellent results. At Inter Club the decision to go ahead with the session was an outstanding success with a marvellous attendance in all age groups which included new members joining as well.
REPRESENTATIVE TEAM MATCHES
FJSC Under 12 Blacks Sunday team played at home against Southport and Ainsdale in their first Craven Minor League cup match of the season. After ten minutes Luca Massey gave the Under 12’s the lead with a great individual goal. Nine minutes later FJSC doubled the score when Dominic Maxwell curled a free kick into the top left-hand corner of the S and A net. Soon it became 3 nil when Dominic Maxwell scored from another free kick which was further out but resulted in a carbon copy goal of his first. Dominic completed his hat-trick early on in the second half. FJSC kept up the high tempo and added four more goals to win 8 nil. The other second half goals were scored by Archie Ogden, Freddie Garvey with a header from a corner, James Cook and a fourth goal for Dominic Maxwell with a twenty yard lob. Man of the match was Freddie Garvey.
FJSC Under 11 Blacks played in a cup match away at Southport FC and enjoyed a hard-fought game. The first half was a close encounter with both teams creating chances. Southport scored twice and the Blacks scored through Samuel Lewis following a well-timed run and composed finish. The second half saw the Blacks continue to play some good football and create some excellent chances but as they started to tire in the tough conditions, Southport extended their lead and then went on to win the match 5-1. There were some stand out performances from a few players namely Samuel Lewis, Patrick Fleming and Charlie Knowles but man of the match this week was awarded to Jack Finley for his excellent display in goal.
FJSC Under 9 Whites made the trip to Burscough to face a newly formed Dynamo team. FJSC proved too strong on the day despite a fine effort from Burscough. FJSC’s Archie Weir scored five times and there were also two goals from man of the match Gregory Houghton. The Under 9’s played some great football and the team is growing in confidence.
FJSC Under 7 Blacks had a very exciting eight goal match with Southport Athletic. FJSC started well with a quick-fire hat-trick from Jack Haggart. Isaac Higgins scored his first goal of the season with a powerfully struck corner kick. Jack Haggart completed the scoring with another goal to add to his tally late on. It was a very good all round team performance with fine contributions also from Jack Hansen, Seb Hodgson, Nathan Hyslop, Maxwell Byford and Harry O’Donnell.
FJSC Under 6’s had a fantastic match with ESC. It was a great performance and it clear to see the boys’ confidence growing each week. FJSC led on many occasions during the epic match but ESC kept drawing level and eventually when the final whistle was blown the two teams had equally shared twelve goals and honours were even. Jacob Givin scored four of the FJSC goals and there was also one goal apiece for Matthew Miles and Harrison Weir. Oliver Parrish in goal made some great saves and Daniel Johnson, Finley Duffin and Archie Phenna also played well and came close to scoring.
INTER CLUB FOOTBALL
Inter Club was buzzing on Saturday. The enthusiasm of all the young footballers was there for all to see. After eight Saturday sessions the warm atmosphere of FJSC Inter Club is developing very well. Not only are the boys improving their football skills, the matches in all age groups are now at a different level and an important by- product is that new friendships have and are been made. The support and enthusiastic encouragement all the parents are giving to all the boys is helping to make Saturday Inter Club very special.
The Year 6/7 match was action packed with twelve goals scored. The Blue team won 8-4 against the Orange team. Scoring in the match were Ethan Donegan, Evan Hughes, Aaron Pickard, Ollie Dean and Isaac Dey.
Once again there was a wonderful attendance in the Year 4/5 age group which had a fitting result 4-5.
There were also good matches in all the younger group.
Also on Saturday morning the regular short extra training sessions which the FJSC Under 8 Blacks hold each week is now also being taken up by the FJSC Under 7’s. It was also nice to see the FJSC Under 16 team hold an extra session after their Saturday match had been cancelled. FJSC Under 8 Whites also took advantage of a free week and arranged a friendly match with Northfield.
With our usual coaches on holiday I thoroughly enjoyed taking all the coaching sessions during the morning and would like to congratulate all the boys for their effort in the sessions. We had fun reaction and speed drills, individual ball skills, dribbling relays and to finish a challenging obstacle race for all the age groups.
