Frank Rourke's report from Formby Junior Sports Club
It was the best weekend so far for Formby Junior Sports Club’s Representative teams with some excellent results. The Saturday Inter Club Section is coming on leaps and bounds with new members joining the enthusiastic groups. The coaching was once again excellent and all the matches played had goals galore.
REPRESENTATIVE TEAM MATCHES
FJSC Under 16 Whites produced a great team performance against Redgate Rovers and won 7-2. FJSC had most of the possession throughout the game. There was a good display in goal by Henry Leason who kept Redgate’s goal tally down to two. This enabled FJSC to push ahead and score some brilliant goals. Marc Whitelaw and Elis Parry scored two goals each. Steven Mordaunt was also on the scoresheet with a goal and once again had a terrific display and was constantly a threat to the opposition. James Hilton and Luke Honour completed the Under 16’s scoring with a goal apiece. Man of the match was Ellis Parry for his work rate, effort and team play.
FJSC Under 12 Blacks were held to a goalless first half by Rainford Rangers on Sunday. It was a different story after half time when Dominic Maxwell broke the deadlock with a goal scored within a minute of the restart. Three more quickfire goals from man of the match Dominic Maxwell, plus a brace from Luca Massey and a penalty scored by Charlie Garvey gave FJSC a 7 nil victory.
On Saturday FJSC Under 12 Blacks were in action against Northfield Dortmund in the Hightown League. After a very even start to the match Callum Gray gave FJSC the lead. Six minutes later it was 2 nil when Henry Jones scored his first goal for the club. Northfield pulled a goal back before Luca Massey made it 3-1. In the second half Luca Massey scored again before man of the match Isaac Burns completed his team’s scoring with his first goal for FJSC in the 5-1 win.
FJSC Under 11 Black played away against TQ Academy in Ormskirk. TQ scored early on but once the Blacks had settled, they looked the stronger team and controlled the game for most of the first half. Ethan Richmond equalised from a corner and then Patrick Fleming put them ahead with a long-range free kick. The second half saw the Blacks extend their lead early on after Abe Rice scored following a strong run and finish. TQ fought back and scored from close range to set up a tense finish. The Blacks defended well and rode their luck at times and thought they had done enough to hold on for a well-deserved win but with virtually the last kick of the game TQ scored an equaliser. Man of the match was awarded to Henry Renton who gave a very assured and confident performance in defence, on his debut.
FJSC Under 9 Whites played Southport Hesketh at home. Both teams had opportunities to score early on and there were some excellent saves from goalkeeper Gregory Houghton to keep the scoreline at 0-0. FJSC started to apply more pressure and goalscoring opportunities were taken by Zac Hooson-Jones, Jacob Davies and Archie Weir who was voted man of the match after scoring four times.
FJSC Under 8 Whites Saturday team played Ormskirk. It was another impressive team display. Scoring for the Whites were Mason Stringer, Josh Tallon, Edward Oliver, Diego Funes-Cervera, Thomas Crutchley and Jaiden Crosby. See photograph above.
On Sunday FJSC Under 8 Whites played Southport Trinity in what turned out to be thrilling match between two very good teams. Trinity scored twice in the first half with counter attack goals. Diego Funes- Cervera scored after half time. Trinity came back strongly with a third goal before in a grandstand final few minutes FJSC’s Joshua Halpin reduced the deficit to one with a fantastic individual goal. In a cliffhanger last couple of minutes FJSC came close to equalising with a shot which hit the Trnity post and an off the line clearance.
The match between FJSC Under 8 Blacks and Redgate Green was end to end from start to finish. Jack Williams and Huey Stevenson scored first half goals for FJSC. A goal scored by Redgate each side of half time levelled the score. Man of the match goalkeeper Harrison Hughes made some great saves and with the help of very good defensive work from Oliver Hall-Gleeson, Ryan Lamb and Finn McDerby the Blacks held on. Honours were even particularly in midfield and attack where Rory Rankin, Will Roberts and Joseph Kenyon worked tirelessly.
FJSC Under 8 Reds were also in action against Redgate Black. The Reds gave a good account of themselves after a shaky start when they conceded a few goals. The determined effort brought about three second half goals for the Reds. Tom Murphy scored his first competitive goal. Joel Wright added another goal and then captain Zac McHugh scored the Reds third goal with the last kick of the match. There was a brilliant double save by goalkeeper Joel Craven. Mason Todd on his debut played well in defence and there were strong displays by Isaac Pepper and James Hannan in an overall good team performance.
Every member of the FJSC Under 7 Whites squad played really well in the fixture with Redgate Blacks. Harry O’Donnell scored a hat trick. Jack Haggart scored two and Jack Hansen and Seb Hodgson were also on target with one goal each. The Under 7’s also defended well to keep the Redgate forwards at bay.
