Frank Rourke's Report from Formby Junior Sports Club with one of best attendances of the season

Formby Junior Sports Club’s Inter Club Section had one of its best attendances of the season last Saturday. Many of the club’s Representative teams gained impressive results with the Under 6’s, 7’s and 9’s all playing very well with the three teams scoring a total of thirty goals between them. Although it was the last weekend of matches for the Rep. teams there are summer tournaments to look forward to. For the Inter Club boys the good news is there are still two Saturday sessions left before the end of the season.
REPRESENTATIVE TEAM MATCHES
FJSC Under 12 Saturday team played TMS in the Hightown League semi-final. TMS scored in the first half. FJSC equalised early on in the second half when Charlie Garvey scored. The Under 12’s kept up the pressure on TMS but at full time the score was still 1-1. Extra time followed but neither side could make the break through and it was down to a nail biting penalty shoot-out which TMS won 9-8. It was a very good effort by FJSC and a valiant way to exit the competition. Man of the match was Charlie Garvey.
The FJSC Saturday Under 12 team was also in league action last week and played Litherland Remyca. It was a thrilling encounter and made even more exciting due to the fact that most of the boys from the two teams are all school friends. Harry Barnes scored from thirty-five yards to give FJSC the lead after nine minutes. Remyca drew level within a minute from a corner. Two quick goals early in the second half gave Remyca a 3-1 lead. Luca Massey pulled a goal back for FJSC when he lobbed the keeper from the touchline. Five minutes later it was 3-3 when man of the match Luca Massey scored his second goal of the match from the penalty spot. Honours remained even until the final whistle.
FJSC Under 12 Sunday team have now completed their fixtures in the Craven Minor League. It has been a very good season for the team. The Under 12’s finished runners -up in the Premier Division and were the only team in the league to take a point off the runaway Champions Southport and Birkdale. The team also inflicted S and B’s only defeat of the season in the cup competition.
FJSC Under 16 White won 2-1 against Southport Athletic with Steven Mordaunt on target with two goals. The Under 16’s are in midtable with two matches still to play.
FJSC Under 9 White were in action against Southport Hesketh. After an even start to the match Archie Weir opened the scoring for FJSC. More goals followed particularly in the second half. Also on the scoresheet were Isaac Jones, Nate Daniels, Zac Hooson-Jones and Gregory Houghton. Man of the match was Oscar Buch-Platt.
FJSC Under 8 Reds were away at a sunny Bankfield Lane against Southport Hesketh Juniors FC for the last league game of the season. The home side started the better of the two teams scoring three first half goals, but fortunately James Hannan came off the bench and curled a fine shot into the top corner of the net to pull one back before half time.
The second half was again a competitive affair but this time FJSC Reds dominated and scored three goals courtesy of a Jenson Gray brace and a Zac McHugh goal. Mason Todd held a strong defensive line and Isaac Pepper provided tireless effort and running in the middle of the park. There was plenty of other goal line action with Joel Wright, Joel Craven and Tom Murphy also going very close to scoring. Southport Hesketh equalised before full time to share the spoils. Man of the match was Jenson Gray.
FJSC Under 7 Whites entertained Burscough Dynamo Greens in their last game of the season. The very impressive run of form continued. Scoring the goals for the Under 7’s were Harry O’Donnell, Seb Hodgson, James Smith, Jack Haggart and Jack Hansen.
FJSC Under 6’s had a twelve goal thrilling match with Maghull. The Under 6 team leapt into a commanding lead but Maghull came back strongly to set up a very exciting finale. Jacob Givin led the way with five goals. Also on target with one goal each were Finley Duffin, Matthew Miles and Archie Phenna. The two teams played exceptionally well.
