Four of Formby Junior Sports Club’s new teams this season all won their matches at the weekend.
REPRESENTATIVE TEAM MATCHES
FJSC Under 6 Whites travelled to Netherton to play their early kick off match against ESC Bayern in the Sefton Development League. In a great game for the spectators FJSC started the scoring with a goal from Kayden Dowdall. Within a couple of minutes ESC drew levelonly for the Whites to take the lead with a well taken free kick from Edison Foy. Once again ESC equalised . With some great defending William Laugley and McEddy Osei Assibeymade sure Formby stayed in the match and alongside a brilliant energetic performance from Edison Foy the team worked solidly with lots of brave tackling.
FJSC forged clear with three goals which included the best goal of the match which saw Toby Woodcock surge forward and play a great ball leading to an excellent finish from Kayden Dowdall. In a nail biting finish FJSCgave away two hand ball penalties but ESC were denied by an awesome diving save from Leo McGuire. There were two more goals from ESC Bayern but it was too late to catch the Whites who played so well as a team unit.
FJSC Under 8 Whites Saturday team being new to the Hightown Junior League and playing with no substitutes, were unlucky to be 2-1 down at half time in their match against Burscough. FJSC had a lot of possession but were unfortunate to not to score more, other than Luke Clarke’s long range effort which looped over the keeper’s head.
In the second half, a switch in goal and defence allowed Player of the Match Henry Ade to score four goals in quick succession with Logan Haggart making it six with a penalty. Great defensive work and running by Ben Donnelly and Franklin Chignell helped to ensure the Whites gained their first win.
FJSC Under 8 Blacks were away to Southport & Ainsdale Reds for the first meeting of the season. The game got off to a strong start from FJSC Blacks who were commanding on the ball but struggled to find the net. S.& A.countered and took an early lead. A switch of substitutes saw Ted Middleton going up front and within minutes of being on the pitch the equaliser came. A good working partnership between Ted Middleton and Sam O’Brien saw FJSC take the lead before half time.
After the break FJSC continued to press resulting in a hat trick for Ted Middleton, a brace for Sam O’Brien and one for Isaac Murphy which resulted in the ten goal thriller go in FJSC’s favour. A well-deserved Man of the Match award went to Ted Middleton for his outstanding play topped off with a hat trick.
FJSC Under 10 Gold produced a dominant display to secure a well-deserved victory against Southport FC Reds. The foundation of this win was built on a relentless high press throughout the match, particularly effective in midfield where the FJSC players consistently won the majority of possession and dominated the 50-50 balls.
As is typical of the team’s best performances, a resilient defensive display provided the platform for success. However, it was the influential work in midfield, spearheaded by Player of the Match, Mason Davies, that truly made the difference. The team's incisive passing through the middle of the park allowed the Gold team wingers and strikers to continuously threaten the opposition's penalty area. This attacking intent paid dividends with three wonderful assists that were clinically converted by the team’s prolific goalscorerPaolo Raffo. His sharp movement and finishing ability saw him complete an impressive hat-trick. It was overall, a commanding team performance that showcased FJSC’s pressing game, midfield control, and attacking efficiency.
FJSC Under 15 Blacks Saturday team lost 2-1 to Northern Blues which has dented their chances in the Spring Premier Division. A few weeks ago the Blacks defeated the same team 11 nil. As they say “football is a funny old game.”
FJSC Under 14 Blacks had a good 8-2 win away against Southport Hesketh in theSkelmersdale Junior League. The boys played some excellent attacking football with the pace and strength of Patrick Fleming, Ethan Murphy and Tom Donnelly on the wings causing the opposition lots of problems throughout the game. Patrick Fleming opened the scoring with a fantastic strike from a freekick and then went on to score five more, with Ethan Murphy and Tom Donnelly adding one each.
This was an excellent team performance with some stand out contributions all across the pitch but Man of the Match went to PatrickFleming for his six goals, and who at times was unstoppable.
FJSC Under 13 Blacks drew both their matches at the weekend. On Saturday they were held to a 1-1 draw by River Junior Blacks and on Sunday the team shared the points with Southport Athletic in a 2-2 stalemate.
The top of the table clash between FJSC Under 12 Blacks and Crosby Stuart did not disappoint on Saturday with both teams playing some good football. Crosby Stuart took an early lead before Louis O’Connor equalised from a corner for FJSC. The first half continued with both side looking to take the lead. Early in the second half Crosby retook the lead but before the end of the game FJSC were awarded a penalty which Isaac Jones calmy converted to finish the game 2-2. FJSC Blacks maintain a two point lead in the Spring Premier Division.
FJSC Under 12 Blacks Sunday team played Bootle FC Youth Academy Whites in the Craven Minor League Premier Division. Bootle FC started the game quickly and took the lead via a well taken shot from outside of the area. After a good break Bootle saw thenextended their lead to 2 nil.
This snapped FJSC into life and a well taken goal by Louis O’Connor made the score 2-1. Bootle then responded again and another well-crafted goal put them 3-1 up. Before half time a well taken goal by Charlie Richardson and corner scored by Leo Fagan levelled the score. The second half saw both sides create chances but neither were able to finish and the score finished 3-3.
FJSC Under 12 Whites made a trip to Ferryside Lane for the third time this year for another encounter with Southport Athletic. The two previous games have both been really close and this one was no different. FJSC took the lead with Gregory Houghton heading in from a corner. A quickfire response from Athletic saw them score two quick goals to lead at the break. Athletic started better in the second half and again scored twice in quick succession. Formby came back and finished the game strong with Matthew Crutchleyscoring from close range before seeing another volleyed effort blocked on the line. There were exceptional defensive performances from Jacob Underwood and Reece Bagley. HarryJones was excellent in goal but it was GregoryHoughton who secured Man of the Match for his all-round performance.
FJSC Under 11 Whites Saturday team produced a very good team display against JN Select. Man of the Match was Diego Funes-Cervera who capped a very impressiveperformance with five goals. Scoring one goal each were Archie Walker, Zac McHugh and Jaiden Crosby. FJSC Whites remain in joint second position in the Spring Premier Division.
FJSC Under 11 Blacks played Forefield Blue and played out an exciting draw. Tom Murphy, Oliver Hall-Gleeson and James Coulton scored one goal each. Man of the Match was Albie Graham.
FJSC Under 11 Reds faced off against Southport FC Gold in their first encounter of the season. The visitors came out strong and took control of the game and led by half time. Chase Lowen, who was playing in a deeper position for the first time, scored a great goal to narrow the gap before the break.
The second half was more balanced as the Reds fought harder for the ball and were unlucky to concede a goal just before the end with a momentary lapse of concentration. Player of the Match for the Reds was Haden Radcliffe for his battling display and Brett McKeown for his outstanding goalkeeping and for repeatedly racing off his goal-line to clear the ball away.
FJSC Under 10 Blacks lined up against a strong Litherland Athletic. After an end to end first few minutes Jack Hansen managed to open the scoring from a throw in. Not long after that Litherland scored to make it level. The FJSC boys fought back and Isaac Melton played a pinpoint through ball to Asher Fields to score his first goal of the game. Isaac Melton continued with his lovely passing to put Alex Rowley through on goal to score before half time.
The second half opened brightly for theBlacks as Ashley Jones assisted Ethan Catleugh to score. Olly Stinson then had a rocket of a shot from almost the halfway line which only stayed out due to the crossbar. The boys played some beautiful passing football in the lead up to the final two goals of the game seeing Alex Rowley and Asher Fields to score their second goals of the game. Asher Fields earned the Man of the Match trophy for a top performance; battling hard and influencing the flow of the game.
