Formby’s Oldest Café Begins a New Chapter with Refurbishment, Rebranding, and an Exciting Evening Menu!
Formby’s beloved Cafe D’Art, a family-run staple since 1999, has unveiled a stunning refurbishment and rebranding, launching a fresh look and a new evening dining experience that’s set to delight locals and visitors alike.
To celebrate, Cafe D’Art will officially debut its new evening menu on Friday, November 8, followed by the introduction of a special Sunday Lunch menu on Sunday, November 10. Don’t miss out—reserve your table now by calling 01704 870567 or messaging Cafe D’Art through Facebook. You’ll find this gem tucked away at 26b Chapel Lane, down the side passage beside Iceland.
Originally a cozy coffee shop with homemade cakes and scones, Cafe D’Art has been a pioneer in Formby’s culinary scene, bringing the first espresso machine to town and popularizing cappuccinos, paninis, and Lavazza coffee. They were also the first to offer Peroni on draught and introduce Prosecco, creating a lasting impression on local tastes.
Over the years, Cafe D’Art has continuously evolved, hosting live entertainment six nights a week, from live music and comedy festivals to theatre performances and art exhibits. It even played a leading role in the first Formby Live Music Festival, hosting chart-topping band The Farm and drawing over 5,000 attendees for a memorable outdoor show the following year.
Now, the cafe has been lovingly updated to reflect its rich history. The revamped space, adorned with nostalgic images from the past century, brings the “Good Old Days” back to life—a fitting tribute to the building’s roots as a bakery over 100 years ago, once run by Matilda “Tilly” Woodfin, who lived to an impressive 101. The original bakery ovens are preserved and proudly displayed in the vibrant rear garden area. As a special touch, Imagine Formby has commissioned a mural on the building’s exterior walls, transforming the alleyway with color and charm.
The owners are thrilled to welcome Chef Gavin Ramejkis, whose creativity shines through the new menu. Blending classic favorites with inventive new dishes, Gavin’s offerings are sure to please. Check out the updated menu on Cafe D’Art’s Facebook page, and come experience the magic of the “Good Old Days” for yourself.
