Formby’s James Comish Triumphs at Centenary Southport Flower Show with Award-Winning Garden

Formby’s very own James Comish has made his hometown proud with an extraordinary sweep of awards at the prestigious 100th Southport Flower Show. In a landmark year for the event, James’s garden, aptly named "Southport of Yesteryear," captivated both visitors and judges, earning him multiple top honours and setting a new standard in garden design.

Designed in collaboration with Anthony Major, the "Southport of Yesteryear" garden is a nostalgic tribute to the town's rich history. The design masterfully blends historical elements with modern aesthetics, creating a space that is both timeless and inspiring. This artistic vision not only resonated with the public but also impressed the panel of judges, leading to James’s crowning achievement: the prestigious Southport Corporation Trophy for the Best Large Show Garden.

But the accolades didn’t stop there. James’s garden also secured The Brockhouse Trophy, awarded for the Best Show Garden overall. This recognition solidifies his status as a leading figure in landscape and horticulture, with a design that wowed both the judges and the public alike.

Additionally, the "Southport of Yesteryear" garden earned The Brian Aughton Memorial Trophy for the Best Use of Plants in a Display Show Garden, highlighting James’s exceptional ability to blend plants and design elements into a cohesive and visually stunning display. Rounding out his remarkable achievement, James was also awarded the Large Gold Medal, a fitting tribute to the high standard of excellence he brought to this year’s Southport Flower Show.

James Comish’s landscaping company, James Comish Landscape & Horticulture, has long been synonymous with quality and innovation. Reflecting on this success, James commented, "Our garden ‘Southport of Yesteryear’ is a labour of love, and we are thrilled to see it resonate so deeply with both the public and the judges. We take pride in our work and strive to create spaces that not only look beautiful but also tell a story."

This incredible success is a source of immense pride for the Formby community, as James continues to elevate the standard of landscape and garden design both locally and beyond. His awards are a testament to his dedication, creativity, and the hard work that went into crafting a garden worthy of such high praise.

As the Southport Flower Show celebrates its centenary, visitors can continue to enjoy the "Southport of Yesteryear" garden and many other stunning attractions through 18th August at Victoria Park. The event offers something for everyone, from breathtaking show gardens and floral displays to expert gardening advice, live entertainment, and a vibrant pop-up shopping village.

The centenary Southport Flower Show is a fitting stage for such a spectacular achievement, and none of it would be possible without the support of sponsors such as Massams Supplies Ltd and Websters Turf. Their contributions help ensure that the event continues to thrive, bringing joy and inspiration to everyone who attends.

Congratulations to James Comish on his outstanding accomplishments and for bringing such pride to Formby. We look forward to seeing what he creates next!
