Formby Junior Sports Club Under 12 Blacks and Under 13 Blacks reached Cup Finals after brilliant semi-final displays last weekend.
REPRESENTATIVE TEAM MATCHES
FJSC Under 12 Blacks played Redgate Rovers Green in the Craven Minor League Cup semi-final. The match started at a frantic pace withCharlie Richardson scoring following a corner to give FJSC a 1 nil lead. FJSC continued to push for the next goal but a good break by Redgate Rover’s striker saw him finish well to draw the scores level at 1-1. Two minuteslater FJSC found themselves 2-1 down as again a break away resulted in an excellent finish into the bottom corner. The FJSC players did well to compose themselves and just before half time Charlie Richardsonscored his second of the game to make it 2-2at the interval.
The second half saw FJSC push on again and a good shot from Alfie Frost squirmed over the line to give FJSC the lead. FJSC then had a number of chances to go further ahead but couldn’t find the finishing touch. The slender 3-2 lead was held to the end of the match to secure a place in the final against Churchtown Jaguars.
FJSC Under 13 Blacks were also in Craven Minor League cup semi-final action. Their opponents were Southport Trinity White. It was a very dominant display but the Blackswent into half time only two goals up. Credit where it’s due, Southport Trinity defended well.
With plenty of squad rotation there were sixdifferent scorers. Will Madutlela and BenHarris with his 50th goal of the season scored before the interval but Trinity managed to pull a goal back. In the second half Fabian Reilly, Alastair Bosenquet, Reuben Burke and LucasLewis made sure of the victory by scoring one goal each. It was difficult to select a player of the match because there were so many stand out performances. However for a spectacular goal from thirty-five yards and a commanding midfield display the Man of the Match award went to Alastair Bosenquet.
FJSC Under 13 Blacks now look forward to a May Cup Final against Fleetwood Hesketh.
FJSC Under 15 Blacks Saturday team drew 1-1 with Silcox Villa in the Hightown League. It was an end to end match. Silcox scored first but just before half time Luca Massey equalised. There were no more goals scored in the second half. (See the squad photograph above of the Under 15’s with the theHightown Winter League Trophy).
On Sunday in the Tuebrook League Archie Ogden gave FJSC Under 15’s the lead on the stroke of half time against Mags Milan. Mags went 2-1 ahead in the second half before Isaac Loxham-Keenan rescued a point for FJSC with a late goal to make the final score 2-2.
FJSC Under 14’s Blacks played away againstSkelmersdale league leaders Knowsley Villa. FJSC defended well in the first half and hit Knowsley Villa on the break but chances were limited for both teams. Knowlsey scored twice as the half went on to take a 2 nil lead into the break. The second half started brightly for FJSC as they pressed from the front causing some problems for the Knowsley defenders but as the game wore on, gaps started to open up and a few defensive errors led to five moregoals being scored by Knowsley without reply. Player of the Match was goalkeeperRiley Higgs who had an excellent match, pulling of some great saves.
FJSC Under 13 Blacks produced a reallystrong performance defeating River Juniors 3-1 a team that they had narrowly lost to just a couple of weeks ago. The team were absolutely dominant with Jenson Heron and Will Madutlela controlling the middle. There were three great goals with Ben Harris scoring a brace and Will Madutlela also on the scoresheet. Man of the Match was Eoin Dwyer.
FJSC Under 13 Whites lost 7-1 against Championship Division’s top team Crosby Stuart JFC. Harry Ball made some great saves in goal and Evan Meehan scored a consolationgoal after a great run down the wing by Luke Greenbank. Man of the Match was Ben Gregory who was committed throughout the entire game.
FJSC Under 12 Blacks started the Hightown Spring League with a positive win against Bootle FC to get their defence of the title up and running. FJSC broke the deadlock early on after a good run on the left wing saw Charlie Richardson score with a cool finish to make it 1 nil.
The Blacks struggled to get any pattern of play going on a difficult muddy pitch at Buckley Hill but soon afterwards from a corner, Sylvan O’Hara finished well to make it 2-0. Just before half time, Alfie Frost made a good run which brought out a very good save from the Bootle keeper but the ball couldn’t be kept outand FJSC extended their lead to 3 nil.
FJSC create some really good chances in the second half but they just couldn’t not find the finishing touch due to the woodwork and a good display by the Bootle goalkeeper.Unfortunately FJSC took their foot off the pedal and two Bootle goals before full timemade for a nervous finish but FJSC held on to win 3-2 and gain the three points.
FJSC Under 12 Whites had a home cup semi-final against Churchtown Jaguars. Unfortunately the Whites missed out on a trip to the final against a strong Jags team. Jaguarshad much the better of the first half with FJSC unable to cope with their attacking threat. The 4 nil deficit at half time meant there was only pride to play for in the second half but FJSC did themselves proud and never gave up. Special mention for Man of the Match Jacob Underwood who was exceptional in defence.
FJSC Under 11 Saturday teams had mixed results. The Whites won well against Muniflex but FJSC Blacks lost to Marina Sands. Tom Murphy scored for the Black’s and Man of the Match was Leo Ball.
FJSC Under 10 Blacks lined up at home for the first time this season against a strong Southport Athletic Reds team. Southport Athletic came flying out of the traps and scored within the first few seconds after blocking a clearance and just managing to squeeze home the ball.
The start only galvanised FJSC who showed tremendous character and maturity to keep playing their own brand of football. It soon paid dividends when Alex Rowley pulled a great ball across the box for Man of the Match Jack Hansen to smartly finish. A few moments later Ashley Jones’s good work down the left flank was rewarded by a smart finish again from Jack Hansen following a lovely square ball.
FJSC’s defence continued to give their opponents hardly any opportunities with Idris Jones and Isaac Melton dominating their respective duels. Max Byford gave another very assured performance between the sticks. Asher Fields also extended his recent run of fine performances in a central midfield role.Ethan Catleugh’s hard work paid off when he turned provider for Olly Stinson to smash the ball off the underside of the bar from outside the box for a 3-1 half time lead.
The match continued in much the same vein for the second half with FJSC playing some very impressive passing football as they progressed through the lines. This continued pressure resulted in a fourth goal with Alex Rowley receiving a through ball from Idris Jones before twisting and turning and firing low into the bottom corner. FJSC Blacks played some of their finest football this seasonand the very good all round team effort gave the team a deserved victory.
FCSC U10 Gold suffered their second consecutive defeat, falling to Southport TrinityBlack in a disappointing performance. There were
defensive lapses which allowed Southport Trinity to capitalise and clinically finishopportunities. The team did manage to score two consolation goals scored by Peter McCormick and Tom Carroll and a couple of players showed commendable defensive effort.
FJSC Under 9 Blacks played away at Southport Trinity Blacks in an exciting clash. The score line didn’t reflect the competitiveness of the encounter. The match was played in perfect conditions and both teams showed great energy and skill from the first whistle.
Southport Trinity started strongly, taking an early lead with an amazing strike from outside the penalty area. FJSC responded with attacking intent, creating several chances but were denied by a combination of solid defending and excellent goalkeeping. FJSC finally got their reward just before the end of the first half with a well-taken goal scored by Theo Richards.
Southport Trinity, however, remained relentless, adding to their tally with quick passing and sharp movement. Despite the result, FJSC played with real spirit and could have easily scored more on another day. Both teams showed fantastic effort, with plenty of positives to take forward. It was a great game played in the right spirit!
FJSC Under 8 Blacks on a mild Sundaymorning played at home against Southport Athletic Blacks. It was a competitive first half that saw the FJSC take the lead with a fine low drilled shot from Isaac Murphy finding the back of the net.
After the break Southport Athletic came back stronger and kept pushing to get the equalisinggoal. The Blacks defence held firm but with a few minutes to go the visitors drew level and honours were shared. It was a competitive game, especially in the second half with all the boys working tirelessly. Man of the Matchwas Isaac Murphy.
It was another great team performance from the FJSC Under 6 Whites. It was a tight game against Marina Sands. Everyone got a chance to get involved and play their part with some great battling from Lillia Carroll and Teddy Gillingham.
Leo McGuire was rock solid at the back closing down the Marina Sands attack at every opportunity and also played some great passes forwards to set up the team’s attacks. William Laugley made some excellent passes out of goal which moved the team up the pitch.
Once again, the attacking duo of Kayden Dowdall who scored five goals and Thomas Daly scoring three were a handful for the opposition. The game was level until the last couple of minutes but the FJSC teamcontinued to work tirelessly until the very endof the game and scored an injury time winner. It was a hard won victory which was atestament to the attitude of every member of the squad.
