Formby Junior Sports Club Under 12 Black are crowned Winter Premier League Champions

Formby Junior Sports Club Under 12 Black are crowned Winter Premier League Champions after winning thrilling final match.

FJSC REPRESENTATIVE TEAM MATCHES

Top of the league FJSC Under 12 BlackSaturday team went into the final match in the Hightown Winter Premier League against second placed Silcox Villa knowing that a draw would be enough to see them crowned champions for the first time. With two points separating the teams in this decider and with Silcox Villa being the reigning age group champions, this was always going to be a tough battle.

FJSC started the game well and looked to take control in midfield via the trio of Ellis Coyne, Caden Walker and Ben Webster. An early corner by Louis O’Connor was met well by the dangerous heading of Sylvan O’Hara which went narrowly over the crossbar. As the first half ensued, FJSC started to take control of the game with the Silcox Villa attacks beingwell marshalled by Alex Barr and Louis O’Connor using the calm and confidentgoalkeeping of Oscar Phillips.

With Charlie Richardson and Isaac Jones constant pressing and running up front, it was only a matter of time before a chance was created and it fell to Isaac Jones who just mistimed his shot after great play by the midfield. Finally, just before half time a great corner again by Louis O’Connor was again met by the head of Sylvan O’Hara with the ball just going past the post.

Half time and 0-0, the boys knew that they had 30 minutes left after 570 minutes of gruelling football since September to get themselves over the line.

The boys started well in the second half and a quick break nearly caught out the FJSC backline but for some brilliant recovery work by Louis O’Connor to push the Silcox attacker out wide and snuff out the chance.  FJSC pushed on knowing that one goal would mean Silcox would have to score two but without leaving themselves vulnerable to the counterattack.

Alfie Forsyth entered the field soon after half time to add fresh legs in midfield. A burst from Ellis Coyne saw him stride forward towards the edge of the Silcox Villa before being brought down. The resulting free kick was put just wide by Louis O’Connor. FJSC pushed on and after some excellent work by Charlie Richardson the ball fell to Caden Walker on the edge of the box who hit a thunderbolt shot which was destined for the top corner only to be saved by the outstretched hand of the diving Silcox Villa goalkeeper.

FJSC pressure was building and eventually it told. With Charlie Richardson breaking the back line of Silcox Villa after a great pass by Eilis Coyne, Charlie cut inside from the left-hand side and shot only for the Silcox Villa goalkeeper to make a great reactive save which was then followed up by Isaac Jones to put into an empty net while battling with a defender. 1 nil to FJSC and fifteen minutes left. Finley Scott then entered the field to give some height and fresh legs in front of thedefence.

Silcox gave everything to find an equaliser but great goalkeeping by Oscar Phillips and a solid defensive team performance for the last fifteen minutes especially by the non-stop running and tackling of Ben Webster saw FJSC crowned deserved champions.

This was nothing more than the team deserved after a Pre-Season starting back in June and working hard all the way through the summer until now.

It was a fantastic record with FJSC winning all10 matches and scoring  53 goals and only conceding 7.   Every member of the squad played their part over the 10 games to be crowned Hightown Winter Premier League Champions 2024/2025.   Congratulations to all the boys and team managers Simon Walker and Mark O’Connor on a wonderful achievement. FJSC Under 13 Black Sunday team played away at Southport Trinity and won 9-2.  It was a fantastic performance by the boys and the quality of football on display was the biggest positive. Seb Stevens, Harry Redhead, Jenson Heron and Will Madutlela dominated the middle of the pitch which allowed ReubenBurke and Ben Harris the freedom to score a magnificent seven goals between them. Wingers Connor Howells and Fabian Reillychipped in with goals which is always a massive plus.

Ben Harris deserves a special mention for his five goals but the Millennial ScaffoldingLimited Player of the Match was awarded tostand in goalkeeper Eoin Dwyer - not just for taking one for the team but looking the real deal as well.

FJSC Under 13 Whites were involved in a very closely contested match away to second in the league Southport FC Yellow.  FJSC had chances in the first half to take the lead, but went a goal down just before the half time whistle. Two quick goals were conceded at the start of the second half, but the Whites never gave in. A goal from Franek Banas from a brilliant run down the line by LukeGreenbank, gave the team renewed confidence. FJSC then scored again when a  Ben Gregory cross from a free kick washeaded home by Evan McKeown to make it 2-3. Unfortunately time ran out but it was a very good second half comeback.

The boys played some good football on the floor and battled hard all game.  It was a match that could easily have turned into at least a draw.  Evan Mckeown was absolutely solid at centre half and deserved his goal and the Man of the Match award.  There is no doubt that the team is improving with every outing.

FJSC Under 12 Blacks played at home against Southport Athletic on Sunday with a number of squad players missing due to injury from Saturday’s league win and also from sickness. As such Louis O’Connor was called into action in goal one hour before kick off.  With a shuffle of the team line-up FJSC struggled to get any of their normal rhythm going but managed to take a two goal lead with some great attacking play. Southport Athletic looked dangerous on the attack and a punt upfieldcaught the FJSC backline out and Southport pulled a goal back. FJSC then managed to score two more goals to make the score a comfortable 4-1 before Southport struck back again just before half time.

With a change of team and players positions at half time, FJSC looked much more settled as they started to play their normal game in the second half and pushed on to score another sixgoals to make the final score 10-2.

The three points gained leaves FJSC in second position in the Sunday Craven Minor Premier League and still in contention for the title. Alfie Frost scored a hat trick with Isaac Jones and Ellis Coyne adding two goals each.  Charlie Richardson and Finley Scott completed the scoring with one goal apiece.

FJSC Under 11 Blacks continued their recentrun of good form with a very good performance and result against FCFC Falcons.  Joseph Kenyon scored a hat trick.  Oliver Hall-Gleeson added a brace and Tom Murphy was also a scorer.

FJSC Under 15’s where in cup action against River FC in the Tuebrook League.  It was a good game and end to end from start to finish.  FJSC were always playing catch up.  River opened the scoring but FJSC drew level with an Archie Ogden goal assisted by Taj-DeenAbulai.  River swept into the lead again with two goals and led 3-1.  With seven minutes remaining Isaac Loxham-Keenan scored a second FJSC goal to reduce the deficit to one goal.  River then scored a fourth goal but in a thrilling finish Archie Ogden made it 3-4 with three minutes to go.  In a frantic finish FJSC came close to scoring an equaliser which would have taken the match to penalties.  Man of the Match was Luca Massey.

INTER CLUB SECTION

It was very pleasing to see the boys from the FJSC Under 13 Black  team at Inter Club last Saturday.  With no Hightown League Fixture the boys came along to Deansgate to support Inter Club and enjoyed the coaching and the mini competition together with all the regular Year 7 and Year 8’s.

Many of the younger age group attendanceswere reduced in numbers due to pre - Christmas activities and parties.  All the children who did attend enjoyed the sessions and friendly matches.
