Formby Junior Sports Club U10 & U9 Reds Representative teams continued their recent good run of form

Formby Junior Sports Club Under 10 Redsand Under 9 Reds  Representative teams continued their recent good run of form.  There were double successes for FJSC Under 11 Blacks and the two FJSC Under 6 teams.  It was the sixth straight win for FJSC Under 8 Blacks and another good result for FJSC Under 9 Blacks.  These were just a few of the highlights in a busy FJSC weekend of football fun.

REPRESENTATIVE TEAM MATCHES

FJSC Under 10 Reds had a full squadavailable for the first time this season for theiraway match at Southport Hesketh Whites.  The Reds

started the match strongly and after a period of pressure broke the deadlock with a fine solo goal from Tom Murphy who ran from the half way line and fired a shot from long range which found the back of the net. The Reds pressure continued and Joel Wright added another goal sending the keeper the wrong way with a good finish. Before the break Southport Hesketh grew more into the game and pulled one goal back with a great long range effort.

The second half saw Southport Hesketh take the initiative and were the stronger of the two teams.   Eventually Hesketh found the equaliser despite the best efforts of the Reds keeper Brett McKeown who made some great saves and Isaac Pepper who produced another good defensive midfield display.  The Reds battled hard throughout the rest of the match to ensure they walked away with at least a share of the spoils and were unlucky with the last kick of the match not to win when Campbell Woodcock’s shot was saved from close range.

It was a great squad performance  and the team gave a great account of themselves.  Man of the Match was Tom Murphy for a dynamic midfield display.  See the team photograph above of the full FJSC Under 10 Reds squad.

FJSC Under 9 Reds were at home against Crosby Stuart. The game was evenly matched for the first fifteen minutes and both sides battled well. The early chances fell to Crosby Stuart and from a cleared corner a great shot was fired in which put Crosby into the lead. This did not dampen FJSC’s spirits, and some great football saw Rafi Omar shoot from outside the box and Seb Houghton pounce and forced the ball past the Crosby keeper to score and end the half all square.

FJSC started brightly in the second half with multiple chances to take the lead. Some more great football saw Owen Edney score his first goal for the team when he converted a great strike to put FJSC into a deserved lead. A super cross from Isaac Ignatowicz landed close to Rafi Omar which he took brilliantly shooting into the Crosby goal to extendFJSC’s lead further. Another marvellous run from Seb Houghton saw him jinx his way through the Crosby Stuart defence and finish with a fourth and final FJSC goal. It was great team effort with some very good individual displays. The standout performance of the game with his great running, battling and finishing earned Rafi Omar the Man of the Match accolade.

FJSC Under 14’s Saturday team were in action against Silcox Villa in the Hightown Junior League Shield.  FJSC had the better of the early exchanges and had a goal disallowed for offside.   Silcox Villa then took the lead with their first attack of the match.  FJSC equalised after the break when Archie Ogden scored after some excellent build-up play.  The final score remained 1-1.

FJSC Under 13 Blacks played away against the league leaders TQ Football Academy. After a very even first fifteen minutes FJSC conceded a penalty which TQ converted to goone nil up. TQ then extended their lead when they scored with a speculative shot from the corner of the box shortly before half time.

In the second half FJSC took the game to TQ and Josh Kearney came close to scoring after some good play on the wing from Ethan Murphy, but his shot was well saved. Ollie Dean, Abe Rice and Ethan Richmond then combined well, giving Ethan the opportunity to cross into the box, but Josh Kearney was just unable to stretch to meet the ball. FJSC’s momentum was halted though when a lapse at the back gave TQ an opportunity to score, which they took going 3 nil ahead mid-way through the second half. Ethan Donegan was unlucky when he closed down the TQ goalkeeper and won the ball but saw it rebound over the cross bar. TQ went on to score two late goals.

There were some strong performances throughout the team with players being asked to play in different positions but Man of the Match was awarded to Josh Kearney, who showed some quality touches, and offered plenty of energy and football intelligence during the match. FJSC Under 13 Blacks remain in second place in the Championship Division.

FJSC Black Saturday Under 11’s went into thegame against Bootle FC hoping to continue their good showing from the previous week. From the kick off, FJSC gained control in midfield with Ellis Coyne, Caden Walker and Luke Millington dictating play despite playing into a strong wind.  Within fifteen minutes some great midfield work opened up the Bootle FC defence and Charlie Richardson scored his first of two goals to put FJSC into a deserved lead. With Alex Barr, Louis O’Connor and Sylvan O’Hara marshalling the defence Bootle where restricted in chances. Goalkeeper Oscar Phillips was quick off his line for any long balls played with the use of the wind. Just before half time Bootle battled well to win a loose ball in midfield and after some great individual skill,  Bootle found themselves in the FJSC area and calmly finished to make it 1-1 at half time.

In the second half, FJSC with the wind behind them started to press and pin Bootle FC into their half and after a great move by Charlie Richardson and Isaac Jones saw Isaac finish brilliantly into the bottom corner to make it 2-1. Soon after following great pressure from Alfie Forsyth, Charlie Richardson got onto the end of a loose ball and finish to make it 3-1. This was another step in the right direction forthe FJSC Saturday team and hopefully a sign of things to come. Man of the Match was Sylvan O’Hara.

FJSC Under 11 Blacks Sunday team looked to continue their good form in the 2023/24 season against Redgate Rovers. FJSC gainedcontrol of the game with a dominate performance in the centre from Sylvan O’Hara.  Half way through the first half, FJSC managed to take one of the chances when Caden Walker calmly finished past the Redgate goalkeeper to make it 1-0.  With Louis O’Connor and Alex Barr again showing a real solid foundation at the back and with Oscar Phillips in goal, FJSC remained one goal ahead at half time.

The second half continued much the same with some great wing play by Luke Millington wining a corner which was then dispatched viaa bullett header from Sylvan O’Hara to make it 2 nil. With Ellis Coyne and Alfie Forsyth in midfield, FJSC continued to play some great football and a third goal was scored by the ever impressive Isaac Jones which was a goal that his performance deserved for his none stop running and chasing.  The game finished 3-0 and the clean sheet was credit to Oscar Phillips who made some great saves when needed.    Joint Players of the Match were Louis O’Connor and Sylvan O’Hara.

FJSC Under 9 Blacks produced a strong performance against Southport Yellow.  Noah Underwood continued his fine form with another four goals following the four he scored last week.  Ashley Jones and Jack Hansen also continued their scoring streak and Idris Jones also scored.  Ethan Catleughchipped in with a couple of assists and Frankie Bohan got his second assist in two weeks direct from another corner.  Man of the Match went to Olly Stinson with his hard work and direct runs down the wing all game which led to an assist for the opening goal.

FJSC Under 8s Black hosted Southport Athletic Black.  The game started off fairly slowly with both sides cancelling each other out and battling hard to take the lead. The breakthrough came for FJSC and they never looked back. The team continued their great form passing the ball around the pitch and some excellent through balls were rewarded with further goals. The team has great confidence and are becoming a very tough team to beat.  This is their first season togetherfor the team and their hard work is paying off. The goals were scored by Jack Brown , Alfie Madigan , Eoin Follett and Alfie

Alston.  Jarvis Evans was again exceptional in goal.  FJSC remain unbeaten in their last sixgames.

FJSC Under 6 Whites played Widnes in a thirteen goal thriller.  There was some great attacking play and some excellent defending against a strong team.  The scoreline was very close until FJSC finished the stronger team in the closing minutes.  Noah Ignatowicz, Harry Brown, Archie Parrish, Cormac Nice and Leo Rogers all scored.   Arthur Higgins and Anders Carter also played well.  Man of the Match was Harry Brown.

FJSC Under 6 Blacks  played Stocky Red and produced one of their best displays so far this season.  FJSC scored some well-taken goals and after the first period held a commanding lead.  The Under 6’s continued to play well and the team’s training is beginning to show in matches with much better passing andpositional play.  All the boys had a spell in goal and did their best.  Man of the Match was Tayo Popoola who made some really important tackles.  Theo Thomas also tackled well and made some intelligent passes to set up attacks.  Thomas Mitchell who scored some fantastic goals was the Referee’s Man of the Match.
