Formby Junior Sports Club’s weekend highlights saw victories - Franks report here

Formby Junior Sports Club’s weekend highlights were victories for the Under 15’s Saturday team and Under 12 Blacks Saturday team to stay top of their respective divisions. FJSC Under 12 Whites have a great win to move into second place and FJSC Under 10 Reds win cup tie.

REPRESESENTATIVE TEAM MATCHES

FJSC Under 15 Blacks made it four wins from four Premier Division matches played in the Hightown Junior League.   Taj-Deen Abdulaiopened the scoring against Aintree Villa in the eleventh minute after finishing an assist from James Cook.   FJSC squandered a number of chances which allowed Aintree Villa to come back into the game and equalise in the second half.  A few tactical switches were made and with five minutes left FJSC’s Alfie Holden was fouled in the Villa area which allowed Charlie Garvey to score from the spot kick for a 2-1 lead.  To make sure of the three points Berat Ulusoy scored a late third goal which takes FJSC to top of the league.  Man of the Match was Dylan Madeley. See the team photograph above.

On Sunday the Under 15’s carried on their fine form in the Tuebrook League with a 7 nil victory over Warner Rangers.  It was the best the team have played all season.  There were some exceptional goals scored including two from Charlie Garvey.  His first was a twenty yard screamer and his second goal was wonderful individual goal.  Thomas Prior also scored from long range and there were goals for Callum Gray,  Luca Massey and Cole Heron as well.   Man of the Match was Charlie Garvey for his goals and two assists. Special mention to the Warner Rangers goalkeeper who made some brilliant saves.

FJSC Under 14 Black got off to a flying start in their cup match against Rainford Rangers on Remembrance Sunday after both teams had paid their respects and observed a minute’s silence. Scoring within a couple of minutes of kick off, Ethan Richmond closed down the last defender, raced clear with the ball on the left wing and hit a low drive into the far corner to put FJSC one up. FJSC were competing well and created a couple more half chances before Rainford then won a corner and scored with their first attack of the game. The first half finished 1-1.

In the second half FJSC had several good chances to retake the lead as Ethan Richmond had a shot well saved. Ethan Murphy had an effort cleared off the line and Ollie Dean struck an effort just wide, but it was Rainford who broke away and scored a second goal to go 2-1 up after injuries required a reshuffle in FJSC defence. With five minutes to play the Rainford’s goalkeeper pulled off a fantastic save to deny Ethan Murphy a deserved goal, and from the resultant attack Rainford went down the other end and scored to make it 3-1, and then added a fourth with the last kick of the game.

Man of the Match went to Patrick Fleming who had an excellent game, was strong in the tackle and drove forward when the opportunity allowed creating chances down the left wing.

FJSC Under 13 Whites played top of the Craven Minor League Championship Division Crosby Stuart and produced a very good effort against a well organised team. The lads battled hard throughout the game with some great saves from Harry Ball. Dylan Hyslop was solid at the back and produced some really important and well timed slide tackles.  Ben Gregory was Man of the Match with non-stop commitment and desire to win the ball in midfield.

FJSC Under 13 Blacks won 7-5 against Southport Trinity White in an end to end very exciting match.

It was back to league action for FJSC Whites Under 12’s with a trip to Bankfield Lane to play against Southport Hesketh White who had started the season well. Southport took the lead after a cross FJSC failed to deal with was turned home before a long-range equaliser from Zac Hooson-Jones before half time. A much improved second half display saw Matthew Crutchley score an early contender for goal of the season after some great wing play from Archie Marron , before Nikolaos Kostakis added another. Hesketh pulled one back but FJSC saw out another victory to make it 4 wins out of 5 in the league with Matthew Crutchley adding the final goal late on.

FJSC Blacks Under 12 Saturday team wentinto this match against Hillside full of confidence on the back of three straight wins in the Hightown Premier league. The game started with both teams prodding and probing to try and find a way through a congested midfield. FJSC struggled to get a foothold in the game and on thirty minutes a cross found its way through the FJSC box which a Hillside player found themselves on the end of and finished with a smart finish. Normally going a goal down kicks FJSC into life but this wasn’t to be the case as the team held onto half time to be only 1 nil down after a smart double save from Oscar Phillips.

Some honest and harsh words at half time seemed to breath some fire into the team and the boys came out a completely different team in the second half. With Ben Webster’s non-stop running and tackling along with Louis O’Connor’s brilliant defensive display, FJSC started to create chances for Charlie Richardson and Isaac Jones.

Within ten minutes of the restart, some good build up play saw Caden Walker burst into the Hillside box before he was brought down. Caden Walker dispatched the penalty and then FJSC never looked back. Some great defending by Hillside kept the score at 1-1 but eventually after some good play by Finley Scott saw a Charlie Richardson shot saved which rebounded out to the alert Isaac Jones on the edge of the area who finished into the top corner to make it 2-1. FJSC continued to battle to keep their slender lead to deservedly win due to the much improved second half performance. The Man of the Match award was shared by Louis O’Connor and Ben Webster.

FJSC Under 12 Black made it 14 out of 14 with a hard-won battle against RedgateRovers. With constant rain coming down on the players it reflected much of the mood of the first half with both teams struggling to get the ball down on the ground and a poor standard of football being played by both sides.

With the score 0-0 at half time FJSC came out in the second half and started to play the ball more on the ground. Both teams created some chances in the second half and a great double save from Oscar Phillips kept the score 0-0. As full time was approaching a great run down the left wing by Luke Millington saw him deliver a superb ball into the penalty area which Charlie Richardson despatched to give FJSC a 1 nil lead. With little time to respond the game finished 1-0. Man of the Match wasEllis Coyne.  FJSC Blacks are top of the Premier Division with a five point lead from second placed Churchtown Jaguars.

FJSC Under 11 Whites were in action against Forefield Blue on Saturday. FJSC played brilliantly but only managed a point in a game where they didn't take their chances.  Clayton Gilbertson hit the bar and Andreos Mingas, Archie Walker and Zac Cooper were all denied by the opposition goalkeeper. Against the run of play, and with their only shot Forefield scored with a brilliant shot into thetop corner from twenty yards.

In the second half FJSC continued their control and within ten minutes of the restartdrew level with a goal from Archie Walker.  The Whites kept the pressure up but were  denied by the woodwork and twice had the ball cleared off the line.  Josh Halpin was Man of the Match with a brilliant performance at right wing back.

On Sunday FJSC Under 11 White played theirfirst game in the new Red Division against Ormskirk.  FJSC missed an early penalty and Ormskirk then went one ahead.  Sam Petrouand Zac McHugh kept up their good form and helped to create chances.  Eventually Quinn McAuley converted deftly from a corner for the equaliser.

Just like the day before FJSC took a footholdin the second half, but this time took their chances. Unfortunately having missed again from the penalty spot,  and having a goal ruled out from offside Diego Funes-Cervera scored a wonderful solo goal, capping off a great performance.  Diego then turned provider and put Andreos Mingas through who showed fabulous composure to make it 3-1.

Man of the Match was Chris Clarke for a wonderful defensive performance winningevery tackle and starting some positive attacksincluding the build up for third goal.

The new FJSC Under 11 Blacks had a very close encounter with Netherton but just fell short in the six goal match.  Scoring for FJSC were Kellan Walshe and Finn McDerby.  Players of the Match were Albie Graham and Henry Gardner.

FJSC Under 11 Reds hosted Southport andAinsdale Blues on a grey and drizzly Sunday afternoon. The game started off evenly but the visitors grew into the match and took the lead into the break. A penalty conceded either side of the break made it difficult for Reds to get back into the game but they kept their heads up and battled to the final whistle. Highlights for the Reds included some fine saves from Brett McKeown, James Hannan holding a good defensive line and a battling midfield display from Isaac Pepper but MOTM went to Mason Todd for a gritty defensive display.

FJSC Reds played away to Southport FC Blacks in the Cup Qualifier. The Reds started well with some great attacking play which quickly put FJSC intro the lead with two goals from Adam Tyler-Holland. FJSC comfortably controlled the game scoring two more goals from Seb Houghton and Owen Edney. Southport pressed with a high ball which caught FJSC off guard and managed to score ending the half 1-4 to FJSC.

The second half started like the first with quick goals from Isaac Ignatowicz and another from Owen Edney. FJSC once again controlled the game and scored their seventhwith a great pass through to Rafi Omar. The Reds were full of confidence and followingsome great battling Kian Turley added to the total. Seb Houghton drove down the left and cut inside to round the game off with his second and FJSC’s final goal. It was a brilliant team performance with the whole team sharing the MOTM accolade.

FJSC Under 10 Gold played at home against Southport FC.  Despite the final result (0-1), there were numerous encouraging signs throughout the match. The team's improved positional play was particularly evident in theattacking movements, with multiple 3-on-2 situations created through swift exchanges between the front three. These combinations came tantalizingly close to producing goals on several occasions, including one effort that was dramatically cleared off the line.

The midfield's more advanced positioning proved highly effective, enabling both more frequent interceptions and stronger attacking support. This tactical adjustment significantly enhanced the team’s  ability to sustain pressure and regain possession in dangerous areas.

Defensively, the team continued to excel and even elevated their performance. Alfie Marshall exemplified this with an outstanding display of positioning and tackling, consistently tracking back to make crucial interventions. His defensive awareness and timing in the challenge were particularly noteworthy.

The overall display suggests a team continuing to evolve positively, and on another day, this performance would have yielded a victory. The margin between success and failure was extremely fine, with the team unlucky not to take all three points, especially considering the goal-line clearance that denied the ever improving FJSC Gold team.

FJSC Under 8 Blacks played away to a well organised Crosby Stuart, despite the black’s best efforts at defending well Crosby Stuart soon found the back of the net. Just before the half time break Sam O’Brien had a great opportunity from a free kick which he capitalised on and got the Blacks on to the scoresheet.

In the second half saw Ted Middleton battledhard against the Crosby Stuarts defence and was unlucky not to come away with a goal for his efforts. Overall it was a good team effort despite the score line. Man of the Match went to Teddy Ball for some outstanding saves and an assist and to Sam O’Brien for his hat trick and battling in the midfield.

FJSC Under 7 Black took part in the Craven Minor League Tournament held at Edge Hill University.  The boys played very well and were unlucky not to have reached the finals having points lost after being in the lead in some of their matches.  Harry Brown, Archie Parrish, Albee Fairhurst, Cole Jones, Tayo Popoola and Ollie Jones all scored goals in the group matches.

FJSC’s Player of the Tournament was Albee Fairhurst who made some brilliant saves in goal before becoming an outfield player and scoring two great goals.  Tournament Man of the Match was awarded to Max Healey who worked tirelessly in every match.   Theo Thomas also played very well.

FJSC Under 6’s played their second ever competitive match in the Sefton Development League and tried very hard against a strong team.
