Formby Junior Sports Club’s Under 13’s won the cup double last weekend in glorious style

Formby Junior Sports Club’s Under 13’s won the cup double last weekend in glorious style.  On Saturday the team won 6-1 against JN Sports to lift the Hightown Junior League Shield and just over twenty-four hours later were victorious in the Craven Minor League Tom Galvin Cup Final when they won 6 nil against Greenloons Greens.

It was a fantastic way for the FJSC boys to finish the season when the previous week the FJSC Under 13 Blacks were crowned Craven Minor Under 13 League Champions, see the picture above, and were also honoured by becoming the FJSC 2022-23 Team of the Year when the Sunday squad were presented with the prestigious Glyn Memorial FJSC Team of the Year Trophy at the club’s Annual Presentation Evening.

Congratulations to all the boys of the Saturday and Sunday FJSC Under 13’s squads and also to Team Manager Gary Garvey and Assistant Team Manager Paul Jones who have been instrumental in the success of the two teams.

It was a great way for FJSC’s season to finish but already the club is getting prepared and organised for the start of the new season which will get underway at the beginning of September.

REPRESENTATIVE TEAM REPORTS

HIGHTOWN JUNIOR LEAGUE SHIELD FINAL

FJSC UNDER 13 BLACKS 6     JN SPORTS 1

It was a difficult start to the match with JN Sport opting to play the long ball game.  FJSC soon got the measure of these tactics and began to settle into their usual passing game.  JN Sport were solid and compact to break down but the deadlock was broken after thirty minutes play when Dominic Maxwell scored with an excellent strike.  A crucial second goal was scored by Luca Massey on the stroke of half time to double FJSC’s lead.

Straight from the kick off in the second half Callum Gray made it 3 nil to put FJSC very much in command.  Charlie Garvey added a fourth in the thirty- ninth minute.  One minute later Freddie Garvey scored with a great header from a Charlie Garvey free kick to make it 5 nil.  JN Sport rallied and scored from a penalty.  Berat Ulusoy then completed the scoring for FJSC in the final minute to make the final score 6-1 for FJSC.

It was a very good team display and there were many good individual performances but the man of the match went to Dylan Madeley who was a colossus in the heart of the FJSC defence.

CRAVEN MINOR LEAGUE TOM GALVIN CUP FINAL

FJSC UNDER 13 BLACK 6.    GREENLOONS GREENS 0

It was a very sunny day at The Community Ground, the home of Burscough Football Club.   FJSC got off to a wonderful start with Dominic Maxwell scoring after just two minutes.   Six minutes later Archie Ogden made it 2 nil. The Under 13’s were awarded with a penalty but the Greenloon’s goalkeeper made a good save to keep his team in the game.  After thirty minutes Isaac Burns went on a great run and kept his composure to score FJSC’s third goal of the match before half time.

James Cook added a fourth goal after the interval when he scored following a perfect through ball from Dominic Maxwell.  A positional change was made with Isaac Burns moving into a striker’s roll for the final ten minutes of the match which proved very successful with Isaac scoring twice to see him complete his cup final hat trick.

The final 6 nil scoreline did not reflect a very good team effort from the Greenloons Greens team.  It was impossible to single out an individual for the FJSC man of the match award so Team Manager Gary Garvey awarded it to the whole team.
