Formby Junior Sports Club’s Free Taster Sessions are proving to be very popular - Franks report here
Formby Junior Sports Club’s Free Taster Sessions are proving to be very popular as children “new to football” are coming along to the Inter Club sessions at Deansgate Lane on Saturday mornings to give football a try. On the Representative team front FJSC Under 13’s win against their nearest challengers to go top of the Craven Minor Leagues’ Under 13 Division, whilst FJSC Under 11 Whites extend their unbeaten run to seven matches and the FJSC Under 7’s team go undefeated in their last nine games.
FJSC REPRESESENTATIVE TEAM MATCHES
FJSC Under 13’s played Shevington Park in the Craven Minor League top of the league clash last Sunday. Archie Ogden got his team off to a great start when he scored after only thirty seconds. Shevington equalised from a free kick after fifteen minutes. It remained at 1-1 until early in the second half when Dominic Maxwell scored to give FJSC the lead. The outcome was still very much in the balance until Archie Ogden scored a wonderful individual goal with two minutes to go to make the final score 3-1 to FJSC. The Under 13’s are now three points ahead in the league but still have crucial matches to play.
In the Hightown League FJSC Under 13’s Saturday team had a very close match with Fazakerley Rangers. It was goalless in the first half with both defences holding firm. After fifty-five minutes play FJSC finally took the lead when Charlie Taylor scored with an excellent finish. Charlie Garvey then doubled FJSC’s lead when he scored with a great header from a corner. There were no further goals scored. The final result was a 2nil victory for the Under 13’s.
FJSC Under 12 Blacks played away against Ormskirk West End. It was a competitive first half, but Ormskirk just edged the balance of play and created the most chances. Josh Kearney had an opportunity for the Blacks when he turned on the edge of the box and unleashed a fantastic shot that the keeper did well to tip over the bar. Ormskirk opened the scoring from a corner to make it 1 nil and had other chances to score but were thwarted by both Riley Higgs and Charlie Knowles. They were unable to do anything though to stop Ormskirk scoring a second from a rebound after an initial excellent save from Riley Higgs.
The second half saw more chances at both ends, with the best falling to Abe Rice following a through ball from Ollie Dean. Abe won a challenge with the keeper and skipped past two defenders but couldn’t get his shot off. Charlie Knowles then went on a run down the right and crossed to Patrick Fleming who struck a superb shot from the edge of the areawhich went into the top corner of the net to make it 2-1. Despite FJSC pushing forward looking to equalise, it was Ormskirk who scored a third goal to finish the game 3-1 winners.
Man of the match was awarded to Charlie Knowles for an excellent overall performance.
FJSS Under 11 Whites were at home to Crosby Stuart and produced another impressive performance that was a little bit different to the last few weeks as FJSC were comfortable without ever hitting top gear. It’s an incredible place for the boys to have earned for themselves through consistent hard work in training and matches. Ben Harris scored from a tight angle after a minute and Joby Varey fired home from a corner after six minutes. Crosby Stuart were dangerous at times and pulled one back half way through the first half to show that it was not all going FJSC’s way. Lucas Lewis’ corner kicks were again proving a lethal weapon and Sylvan O’Hara connected with one at the back post to make it 3-1 at half time. Harry Ball in goal and the defence and defensive midfield were fantastic again with a brilliant clearance off the line from Dylan Hyslop showing the great attitude that the boys all have to cover for each other. Lucas Lewis made it a hat trick of assists after great battling led to another corner which Ben Harris finished in style. Luca Mihai was playing further up the field and had lovely touches and influence on the match throughout and finally scored the goal that he fully deserved with a great looping finish over the Crosby Stuart keeper into the far corner.
FJSC Under 9 Reds hosted Southport Hesketh at Deansgate Lane. It was a keenly contested game with the deadlock being broken by FJSC Reds when Tommy Collins unleashed a long range shot from the wing which found its way into the top corner of the net. The first half finished with the Reds one goal up.
The beginning of the second half saw a strong response from the away side and they struck back to level the score. A long range through ball from Tom Murphy found James Hannan. It a sprint to the ball between him and the keeper, James just edged it to nick the ball past the keeper and the Reds retook the lead. Southport Hesketh responded well to this setback and scored the equaliser almost immediately with the game finishing with the spoils being shared.
There were a lot of positives to take from the game with Isaac Pepper showing promise in goal. Mason Todd was again strong in defence and Joel Wright and Zac McHugh linked well when attacking. The Parents’ Man of the Match Award went to Tommy Collins for his dynamic midfield display.
FJSC Under 9 Whites played JN Sports with Diego Funes-Cervera scoring the Whites only goal.
FJSC Under 8 Whites played exceptionally well in their match away at Burscough Dynamo. From the first minute FJSC were on the front foot with very good attacking playand with the pass and move flow good to watch. Jack Haggart, Henry Williamson, James Smith, Jack Hansen and Seb Hodgson were all scorers. The defence also held firm when Burscough were on the attack. It has been a great season so far for the FJSC Whitesteam.
FJSC Under 7 Whites played away at Southport Trinity. It was a very close game with both teams very well organised. Southport Trinity took the lead just before half time from a good counter attack. After half time FJSC were looking the more likely team to score and equalised within a few minutes with a goal from Jack Brown. The Whites continued to press and came close again with a shot from Charlie Ormesher which hit the post. A good pass down the right wing found Charlie Vernon who made a great run before dispatching a shot that found the top corner of the Trinity net to put FJSC into the lead. Southport again caught the Whites with a counter attack and equalised with a few minutes remaining to end the game all square. FJSC Whites extend their unbeaten run to nine games. See photograph above.
