Formby Junior Sports Club had Seven Magnificent Firsts  last weekend

Formby Junior Sports Club had Seven Magnificent Firsts  last weekend.  FJSC Under 14’s, FJSC Under 11 Reds and FJSC Under 8 Blacks all won for the first time this season.  FJSC Under 10 Gold gained their first point with a thrilling comeback draw.  FJSC Under 12’s Black Sunday team and FJSC Under 15’s Saturday team are in first place in their respective leagues.  Finally FJSC  youngest team the Under 6 Whites played their first ever competitive match.

FJSC now has twenty three Representative teams, a thriving Inter Club Section where everyone is welcome and hot off the press a new FJSC Under 7 White team is just being formed as well.  What a brilliant start to the season.

REPRESENTATIVE TEAM MATCHES

FJSC Under 15 Black played George’s in the Hightown Junior League.  After nineteen minutes Archie Ogden set up Isaac Loxham-Keenan to open the scoring.  Charlie Garvey doubled the lead  from a twenty yard free kick. The score remained 2 nil until the last ten minutes when Taj-Deen Abdulai scored FJSC’s third goal with a curling long shot and Charlie Garvey made it 4 nil with another twenty yard free kick.  Man of the Match was Berat Ulusoy.

On Sunday FJSC Under 15’s where in cup action and recorded a 6 nil victory over Warner Blue Colts in the Tuebrook League.  Cole Heron gave FJSC an early lead and just before half time Freddie Garvey scored from a Luca Massey corner.  With a two goal cushion the Under 15’s played some delightful football in the second half and scored four more goals from Isaac Loxham-Keenan, George Dent with a header, Cole Heron with his second goal of the match and a goal from Man of the Match Taj-Deen Abdulai.

FJSC Under 14 Blacks put in a strong performance from start to finish in their match with Burscough FC Boca to earn their first league win of the season in the Skelmersdale Junior League. The opening goal came as Ollie Dean played a through ball into the path of Ethan Richmond giving him a 1 on 1 with the keeper. His initial shot was well saved but Ethan followed up to score into an empty net.

In the second half, fresh legs came on making full use of the squad and Noah Ratnasinghamcame close to scoring when he hit the cross bar from the edge of the box, to end a flowing move that started with Charlie Knowles moving the ball forward from defence through Tom Donnelly, who played it out wide to Ethan Murphy who beat a defender and then found Noah well positioned.

A second goal followed shortly when Ethan Richmond who scored with a low drive.  Burscough pulled one back, taking advantage of a tight offside call. Ethan Richmond then scored again to complete his hat trick, before Noah Ratnasingham set up Ethan Murphy with a lovely pass, who finished well past the advancing goalkeeper to make it 4-1. There were some great performances all over the pitch, notably Robert Belfrage in defence and Ben Cargill in midfield but it was hat trick hero Ethan Richmond who was awarded Man of the Match.

About a quarter into the season FJSC Under 13 Blacks are really hitting their stride.  There were some outstanding individual performances from the Saturday team.  The lads are really looking like a well drilled unit at the moment with fantastic passing, movement and fluidity mixing with discipline, concentration and communication.  There was a flurry of goal scorers in the 11 nil win over FCN Yellow.  Seth McNamara scored twice and Evan Meehan, Lucas Lewis and WillMadutlela all scored one goal each.

However the day belonged to FJSC’s two strikers with Ben Harris netting an incrediblesix goals and Reuben Burke doing the hard work of taking players out of the equation to make space for his strike partner.  It was a joy to watch and both boys shared the The Bike Repair Shop Formby Player of the Match award. Kudos to goalkeeper Ben Gregory and the back four for keeping a clean sheet and Ben’s one handed save was top class.

It was a great game between FJSC Under 13 Black Sunday team and Southport FC.   Up against a very strong Southport team, the boyswere just beaten in a very closely contested match. Despite enjoying more than the fair share of possession, Ben Harris grabbed a goal back from 2-0 down. An unfortunate third Southport goal before half time nearly put the game out of reach for FJSC but a HarryRedhead goal made it 3-2 which resulted in a frantic finish. Sadly it wasn’t to be but the spirit shown was inspiring and was summed up by skipper Henry Wynne who was Lathom Joinery and Construction Ltd Player of the Match.

FJSC Under 12 White hosted Southport Hesketh Blue at Deansgate. The teams have had many closely fought games in recent seasons and Sunday’s encounter proved no different. Southport Hesketh started the stronger and were much better for the first half taking a 1-0 lead into the interval. After a rejig of the formation FJSC came out much faster and on the front foot in the second half. A fine cross from Lewis Cregeen on the left hand side forced the Hesketh defender into turning the ball into his own net. Both teams had chances, but defences were on top until a well worked corner routine saw Matthew Crutchleyturn in what proved to be the winner with a near post flick.  The boys battled in the second half and their commitment and effort was personified by man of the match Nik Kostakis. The boys can be very proud of their efforts.

FJSC Under 12 Black played against a very good Redgate Rovers in a Hightown Premier League game. FJSC had an early setback after a great through ball split the FJSC defence and a cool finish put Redgate 1 nil up within the first five minutes. FJSC then battled to get control of the game and had a number of 1 on 1 chances which would have drawn FJSC level but for some great saves by the Redgategoalkeeper. Half way through the first half FJSC got the equaliser they deserved after a good free kick saw Sylvan O’Hara tap in at the near post to make it 1-1.

With the second half mimicking much of the first half, FJSC pushed for the winner and a great curling shot by Caden Walker made it 2-1 before an own goal by Redgate saw the game finish 3-1 for FJSC.

MOTM – The team as a whole.

FJSC Black Under 12’s played their PremierDivision Cravern Minor League fixture against Marina Sands. With both teams battling in the first half chances were limitedand the match was goalless at half time. As the second half kicked off FJSC applied the pressure and it could have been 1-0 within the first twentty seconds but for a good save againby the very good Marina Sands keeper. However minutes later Charlie Richardson scored after pressure had been building on the Marina defence. Caden Walker then added a second with a thunderous strike before Sylvan O’Hara scored twice from corners. As the game closed out a good strike from Luke Millington saw the game finish 5 nil. The Man of the Match award was shared by Leo Faganand Sylvan O’Hara.

FJSC Under 11 Black Sunday team had a tough match against a well organised Churchtown Athletic side. There were some great saves in the first fifteen minutes by AlbieGraham and some last ditch defending by Joe Prendergast and Lucas F.  Against the run of play FJSC took the lead with a well worked goal made by Finn McDerby and JacobHalton. Harley Evans finished in style to put the Blacks in the lead.   Churchtown came back strongly and equalised just before half time.

The second half was end to end.  TheChurchtown defence stood strong and the Blacks could not find space to get a clear shot on goal. Churchtown took a well-deserved lead and were unlucky not to score more if it again wasn’t for more great saves by AlbieGraham and strong powerful defending by Joe Prendergast and Max Fairhurst.  Henry Knowles was MOTM for his constant battling.

FJSC Under 11 Reds had a full squad available for their visit to Southport and Birkdale United.   See the squad photograph above. S and B took an early lead.  The Reds grew slowly into the match and equalised with a fine goal from Tommy Collins.  There were further goals for both teams but the Reds took the lead into the break.  Playing with confidence in the second half.  Goals from Tom Murphy and Chase Lowen enabled the Reds to extend their lead and win for the first time this season.  It was a great team performance with everyone making important contributions.   James Hannan impressed in the centre of defence and there was dynamic forward play by the goal scorers but the Man of the Match was Campbell Woodcock for another assured midfield display.

FJSC Under 10 Gold played against a well organised Netherton Junior Lions.  The Gold team were positionally much better than in previous weeks and matched Netherton well in open play.  FJSC scored first with a goal by Mason Davies, who was all over the pitch as he was in the last match. This goal was well deserved given the disciplined and flowing game.

In the second half, FJSC’s organisation started to drift, and the team was not as competitive in their half or through transition and started to get caught with the ball too often.  However, the team showed true grit in the last tenminutes where they didn't stop pressing.  This persistence was rewarded by two excellent goals in the final ten minutes, scored by Paolo Raffo and Rowan Mullin. These goals demonstrated determination and good skill, particularly down the flanks. It could have been a victory in the dying moments but for a post that kept the ball out.

The performance was a major improvement. Man of the match Peter McCormick typified the team's performance - all over the pitch, making tackles, covering back when needed, and setting up attacks.  Well done to all members of the Under 10 Gold team on gaining the first point of the season.

A heavy defeat belied a strong showing from FJSC Under 9 Blacks, with several outstanding performances in the team making a decision for the Man of The Match award a really tough one.

An experienced Southport & Ainsdale team ultimately proved too much to contend with, but the Blacks never gave up and played right to the end. Oliver Beresford scored for FJSC. The boys are definitely improving from week to week and look forward to next week’s game for our next challenge.

FJSC Under 8 Blacks found themselvesplaying away for the second Sunday in a row. This time at Burscough Dynamo Green.  It was a competitive first half with some impressive defensive play from Oscar Craven along with some fine saves by Harley Rea ensured the Blacks went into half time level pegging with the hosts.

The second half saw a change in momentum with the Blacks going on the attack, which saw another fine shot taken by Sam O’Brien giving the Blacks the lead. Isaac Murphy came off the bench and he too soon found the back of the net.

Coach’s Man of the Match was awarded to Harvey Rae for his outstanding goalkeeping and to Oscar Craven who played phenomenally in defence.  Well done to FJSC Under 8 Blacks on their first ever win.

FJSC Under 7 Black had a well matched contest with visitors Southport Athletic Reds. FJSC had the better chances in the first half and Archie Parrish scored the opening goal to make it 1-0 at half time. Southport Athletic started the second half strongly and equalised with a deflected goal. For the home team Harry Brown had a strong performance and was unlucky to have a goal disallowed as the referee couldn't see whether it was over the line. Both teams had chances to win the game however a moment of quality from the opposition made it 2-1. Archie Parrish won the medal and goalkeeper Albee Fairhurst was made Man of the Match for a barnstorming performance making a string of fine saves.

FJSC Under 6 White were excited to play their first competitive match. The team travelled to Netherton to play at Goals in the Sefton Development League. Their opponents Stocky Girls scored an early goal with Lincoln Connolly equalising with a low shot to the corner.  The Stocky girls then took the lead but FJSC drew level again through a strike in the box from Thomas Daly leaving the score at 2-2 at half time.

FJSC had chances in the second half with Thomas Daly hitting the post. The team defended well with some bravery from Teddy Gillingham and great defensive work from the rest of the team which included Edison Foy, Lillia Carroll and Toby Woodcock. As the game went on the FJSC players started to tire and Stocky added four late goals.  Everyone enjoyed the match and are looking forward to the next fixture.  It was an excellent effort from the team.
