Formby Junior Sports Club going from strength to strength - Franks report

Formby Junior Sports Club’s Inter Club Section is going from strength to strength with new members joining each Saturday. Every boy in Inter Club once again had a fun coaching session and also played in a match. All the games played were great to watch and the muddy pitches also added to the excitement. All the Representative teams alsomanaged to play their matches at the weekendand from the reports received whether win, lose or draw every team gave a good account of themselves.

REPRESENTATIVE TEAM MATCHES

FJSC Under 8 Blacks travelled to Southport to play Southport FC on the 3G pitch at Dunes. It took FJSC a few minutes to adapt to the playing surface. Southport started well andheld a two goal lead at the interval despite one goal each being scored by Joseph Kenyon and Rory Rankine. Only for some very good defensive play from Oliver Hall-Gleeson on his birthday, Will Roberts and Finn McDerbyplus some fine saves from goalkeeper Harrison Hughes, Southport would have been further in front.

In the second half FJSC upped the tempo and were soon on level terms with one goal apiece from Joseph Kenyon and Rory Rankine. Soon after FJSC went into the lead for the first time when Joseph Kenyon completed his hat trick. In an exciting last few minutes the hard working Huey Stevenson scored a well deserved goal . Jack Williams tackled well in midfield and Finn McDerby scored two late goals. It was a very good team performance. The man of the match award was shared between Huey Stevenson and Finn McDerby.

FJSC’s Under 7’s was involved in a seventeen goal thrilling match with Southport and Ainsdale Amateur Reds. S. and A. took an early two goal lead. FJSC got themselves back into the game and battled throughout. The Under 7’s played catch-up as the number of goals mounted in this very good match. FJSC’s seven goals came from all around the team. James Smith bagged a brace and top marksman Jack Haggart added to his season tally. Isaac Ade scored his first goal for the team with a strike from distance only to be matched by another fine strike from SebHodgson. Finally there were two great finishes from Harry O’Donnell and Jack Hansen capping off a great day of attacking play. Earlier in the season there was a big gap between these two teams but three months on the improvement that this young FJSC team has made can clearly be seen.

FJSC Under 16’s played for the first time in over a month. Their opponents Redgate started well and put FJSC under pressure early on. There were lots of chances for both teams in the first half with some good saves from goalkeeper James Hilton. Steven Mordaunt was again the driving force with another excellent display and a calmly taken penalty. Samuel Colbourne also got on to the score sheet with a long range free kick. It was a good effort by the Under 16’s but with no substitutes the team tired and eventually lost 6-2.

FJSC Under 12 Blacks played TMS in a Premier Division Hightown League match. It was a high quality exciting match despite the very muddy playing surface. TMS scored twice in the first half. Berat Ulusoy pulled a goal back for FJSC in the second half from the penalty spot but TMS scored again to win 3-1. Man of the match was Isaac Burns.

In the Craven Minor League on Sunday FJSC Under 12 Blacks met Litherland Remyca in another Premier League match. Charlie Garvey scored after twenty-one minutes. Remyca equalised in the second half for a 1-1 draw. Man of the match was Isaac Burns. FJSC remain in second position in the league.

FJSC Under 11 Blacks hosted Redgate Greensand made a slow start to the game which Redgate took full advantage of by scoring four quick goals early on to make it difficult for the Blacks. The Blacks reorganised though and grew into the match as the first half went on creating several chances of their own, with Charlie Knowles making some strong runs down the right wing and combining well with Thomas Donnelly.

FJSC Blacks started the second half with renewed confidence and pinned Redgate back in their own half, dominating in midfield and creating several chances. Redgate extended their lead against the run of play following a set piece. The Blacks continued to push forward and their efforts were rewarded when Patrick Fleming scored with a superb free kick into the top corner of the net. Man of the match this week was awarded to Ollie Dean for his overall performance, drive and competitive spirit.

FJSC Under 9 Whites produced probably theirbest team performance of the season so far. It was really pleasing to see how much the boys have developed. FJSC lost out by a very narrow margin in a close end to end game against a strong Hillside team. FJSC can count themselves really unlucky not have scored with Archie Weir, Albie Salters and GregoryHoughton all going close. Defensively the team has really improved, in particular ReeceBagley and Nate Daniels and there wasanother solid goalkeeping display from Matthew Crutchley.

FJSC Under 8 Reds were away at Redgate Rovers Green. The Reds conceded three goals in the first half but gave a very good account of themselves and provided a competitive half which was closer than the scoreline would suggest. There was a very impressive second half team performance with the Reds scoring two goals with a brace for Zac McHugh. It was good all round squad performance for the Reds with all players giving a good contribution to the team’s efforts.

Man of the match was Joel Wright who gave a determined battling performance.
