Formby High School share outstanding achievements of students A Levels and vocational qualifications
This year, more than ever, Formby High School is delighted to share the outstanding achievements of students in their A Levels and vocational qualifications.
Our Year 13 students have earned impressive grades through their perseverance, application and determination to succeed. Many students have opted to head off to university, securing places on an A to Z of degree courses. In September, Formby High School will be well- represented at universities across the length and breadth of the country, including Edinburgh, Belfast, Oxford, Nottingham, Newcastle, Warwick and York. Many students have decided to stay closer to home, studying at the fantastic universities on their doorstep or travelling along the M62 to Manchester, Salford and Leeds.
In amongst the future dentists, veterinary medics, mathematicians, scientists, historians, business owners and lawyers, we have a good number of students who have opted to pursue courses which will equip them to work in emerging sectors, including Environmental Science, Ecology & Conservation, and Digital Media & Extended Reality.
Our future is in safe hands! The trend towards degree apprenticeships also continues with several students securing placements, including with Merseyside Police and on the Civil Service fast track programme.
Given this year’s cohort had not sat public exams as their GCSEs were cancelled, they were put through their paces with regular assessments and mock exams during their time in Sixth Form to help them prepare for their final exams. This, along with their own hard work and commitment, has clearly paid dividends with 57% of all A Levels graded at A* to B and nearly half of vocational qualifications receiving a Distinction* or Distinction grade.
Whether progressing to university, commencing an apprenticeship or taking a gap year, Year 13 students can leave Formby High School knowing they have risen to the challenge, done their very best and made their teachers and family proud.
David Pearson, Chair of Governors, said:
“On behalf of my fellow Governors I would like to extend our congratulations to all our students receiving their examination results today. You have worked incredibly hard throughout your time at Formby High School, facing challenges with admirable maturity and resilience and embracing school life with energy and enthusiasm. We wish you continued success in whatever your next steps may be.”
Mr Mackenzie, Headteacher, commented:
“Today’s results are a team effort. Our Year 13 students worked with commitment and enthusiasm during the last two years, and they were well-supported by their teachers, parents and the Sixth Form team! The grades they have been awarded are excellent but I am most proud of the young adults they have become – confident, considerate, responsible and ready for the big wide world! Best wishes to you all for the future.”
