Formby Christmas Lights switch on is this Thursday with great new colourful lights and Frosty
The Christmas Light Switch On in Formby is this Thursday 25th November with over £20k spent on new lights by Formby Parish Council.
The Christmas tree was put in place today as seen above and the lights are mostly done and being finished tonight. Frosty has been repaired and is just like new again! Coloured lights on the lamp posts will brighten up the whole village with gold, red and green lights.
Putting up the new lights on Sunday night
The village road will be blocked off to cars from 12noon till about 8pm. Events will get underway from early afternoon with an array of Christmas cheer from the local village shops and businesses such as mulled wine and mince pies, a visit from the Formby Rotary Club Santa at 3pm for the kiddies, a hotdog/burger stall and lots of fairground rides.
All the shops are getting involved in different ways so you can show your support for them by turning up and doing some Christmas shopping.
A local person has now been selected to turn on the Christmas lights, this person was chosen for the amazing effort that was put in to help our community throughout the worst of the pandemic. All will be revealed on the night.
A stage will be in place at the end of Chapel Lane near the roundabout and there will be entertainment from local schools and choirs and a special appearance from Formby School of Dancing and Performing Arts. Principal of the school, Hayley Batchelor-Hannah said: “We have been invited to sing at the switch on for the Christmas Lights in the Village on Thursday 25th at 5.30 just before the Switch on at 6.00pm. Please come down and see us.”
Frosty has been repaired and is now good as new and back in place by Formby Pool
Cllr Bob McCann from Formby Parish Council said: “Normally the Parish Council doesn't organise large functions, however this year, because we are coming out of covid, we have arranged a simple switch on ceremony to try and provide some Christmas cheer. We have not asked for contributions from businesses because we all know it has been tough times for everyone.”
“This year we have invested £20k in new Christmas lights, and a further £6k in what we are calling 'winter lights' in 6 of the trees in the village. We intend to put lights in more trees in the village, and possibly further afield, over coming years. The idea of winter lights is that they will stay on past Christmas to light up the village.”
The village will be closed to traffic from around 12 noon on the Thursday 25th, there will be a stage and choirs from the schools and local organisations will be singing carols.”
“The Rotary father Christmas will be there and a few rides for youngsters and older kids. The lights are due to be switched on at 6pm. The village roads will reopen about 8pm.”
This Thursday 25th November starting around 3pm with the lights switched on at 6pm!
