UPDATE at 6:10pm:
A bystander said: “All sorted. Fire service arrived with one full appliance and the 4x4 which drove through the woods to extinguish the fire.“
”All in all there were 7 firefighters. It’s ridiculous as they could have been missing something much more important.”
“Someone had built the fire around the base of the tree. 100% deliberate.”
Top tips to remember
National Trust need your help to prevent the risk of fire across the countryside that they care for, particularly when they experience prolonged periods of dry weather or are in drought conditions.
The National Trust want Formby to be safe for people who visit and for the flora and fauna that make it such a special place.
You can make all the difference in limiting fire risk by just following simple measures included in the countryside code, such as taking your litter home and making sure any lit cigarettes are properly extinguished and disposed of responsibly.
Never light fires or BBQs on the Sefton coast.
Please help us protect the woods and wildlife by calling the fire service immediately if you spot any signs of fire.
