Family focused live concerts in Liverpool Cathedral are now a reality because of a Formby mother
”My name is Tara Delve and I am a local Formby Mummy who began a business when my little girl was born 5 years ago. My company Music in Unison started 5 years ago in the then Freshfield Children's Centre. Music in Unison is now operating across the Merseyside area and works alongside Liverpool Cathedral amongst other organisations.“
On Saturday 9th April 2022, a team of incredibly talented professional musicians will take to The Lady Chapel Cathedral for another of their popular Take it to the Floor Concerts in which they play a variety of instruments for a family-focussed live concert. In partnership with the Liverpool Cathedral, these concerts are like no other, in that the children and families are encouraged to get up close to the musicians and fully immerse themselves in the musical experience. By being close to the action, they can really hear, feel and see the music as it is being made.
These concerts are the brainchild of Tara Delve, Founder & Lead Practitioner of Music in Unison, who is incredibly passionate about quality musical experiences and musical excellence for early years and young children from all backgrounds.
After attending a concert with her young daughter Isla, the classically trained musician, educator and early years practitioner was disappointed in the experience as she found that they were sat so far away from the musicians, they were having to watch the action on the screen - which negates the point of going to see a live orchestra. Her daughter loved the music but Tara knew that there had to be a way that more could be gained from the experience. She had the idea to create a performance which was based entirely at the height of the child so that they could truly witness the music first hand, have the chance to explore the environment and to really understand the cause and effect of how live music is made.
The concerts are set out in such a way that every child has a good vantage point to access the experience and feel part of the concert. The Take it to the Floor concerts are about immersing children in live music, within a rich environment which would previously not be accessible to them in this way, and open up a new form of entertainment for them.
The professional musicians are engaging to the children, and love to perform to the families, giving them the opportunity to really understand how a musical performance is constructed. With a family-friendly repertoire of well-known songs, and a welcoming, informal atmosphere, the Take it to the Floor concerts are always a sell out.
