StemCell Scousers: Saving Lives Through Stem Cell and Blood Donation Awareness

StemCell Scousers is a dedicated community group based in #Formby, working in partnership with the Anthony Nolan Stem Cell Donor Register Charity and the NHS Blood Transfusion Service. Founded in 2015 by Kevin Dunne, the group was inspired by his personal experience when Anthony Nolan found a life-saving stem cell donor for his wife, Mary, who was battling aggressive leukaemia. A stem cell transplant was her only chance of survival, and multiple blood transfusions kept her alive until she was able to undergo the procedure.
Since then, Kevin and Mary have continued to raise awareness about the urgent global shortage of stem cell donors and the critical need for more people to register as blood and platelet donors.
Fundraising and Donor Recruitment Milestones
In 2024, StemCell Scousers donated £5,240 to Anthony Nolan, bringing their total contributions to an incredible £54,000. Their recruitment efforts also led to:
• 131 new potential stem cell donors joining the Anthony Nolan register, increasing their total to 1,473 recruits.
• 496 additional donors registering with DKMS, bringing their total recruits across both donor registers to 1,933.
