Concerns Raised Over New Takeaway Opening in Formby Village
A new takeaway is set to open in Formby, sparking concerns among residents about potential traffic hazards and disturbances.
The unit, located at The Cloisters on Halsall Lane, will replace the former Bakehouse Cafe, which closed on 9th March this year. Plans for the takeaway were submitted by Purely To Go Ltd, seeking a change of use from a café to a hot food outlet. Despite objections, Sefton Council’s planning committee approved the application during their latest meeting.
According to the council’s planning report, the new takeaway is expected to benefit the local economy and align with the retail and commercial character of the area. Harington Ward Councillor Peter Harvey expressed support for the investment and noted the increasing demand for home-delivered hot food.
However, in a late representation, Cllr Harvey also highlighted concerns regarding parking and traffic. He stated that delivery drivers and customers may park on double yellow lines along Halsall Lane, potentially causing traffic issues and disturbances for nearby residents. He also stressed the importance of considering noise and odour assessments before the takeaway begins operation.
The council acknowledged these concerns but determined they were not sufficient to refuse the application. The planning report pointed out that The Cloisters has a pay-and-display car park at the rear, accessible via a walkway, and that any illegal parking could be addressed through enforcement measures.
The planning committee ultimately approved the proposal, allowing the new takeaway to move forward despite the objections.
