Christmas Light Switch On in Formby with over £20k spent on new lights by Formby Parish Council
Christmas Light Switch On in Formby with over £20k spent on new lights by Formby Parish Council.
Formby Parish Council are going to hold a Christmas Lights switch on event on Thursday 25th November.
Cllr Bob McCann from Formby Parish Council said: “Normally the Parish Council doesn't organise large functions, however this year, because we are coming out of covid, we have arranged a simple switch on ceremony to try and provide some Christmas cheer. We have not asked for contributions from businesses because we all know it has been tough times for everyone.”
“This year we have invested £20k in new Christmas lights, and a further £6k in what we are calling 'winter lights' in 6 of the trees in the village. We intend to put lights in more trees in the village, and possibly further afield, over coming years. The idea of winter lights is that they will stay on past Christmas to light up the village.”
“The village will be closed to traffic from around 12 noon on the Thursday 25th, there will be a stage and choirs from the schools and local organisations will be singing carols.”
“The Rotary father Christmas will be there and a few rides for youngsters and older kids. The lights are due to be switched on at 6pm, we are looking for someone to do it - to be advised, but not a 'celebrity' just somebody local. The village roads will reopen about 8pm.”
