Another great weekend for Formby Junior Sports Club. Franks report here…
Formby Junior Sports Club’s first Inter Club Cup Final for a few years will see history repeat itself when Royal Albion and Park United play each other in a repeat of the first ever final of 1961 when the same two teamsplayed each other. See the photograph above of the 2023 versions of Royal Albion (sky blue) and Park United (red).
On the Representative team front it was another very good weekend. FJSC Under 13’s Sunday team won again to stay top of the league. It was five wins in succession for FJSC Under 12’s and there were also good results for the Under 11’s, Under 10’s, Under 9 Whites, Under 9 Reds and the young Under 7’s.
REPRESENTATIVE TEAM MATCHES
FJSC Under 13’s Sunday team were in action against Greenloons Greens. Dominic Maxwell gave FJSC an early lead. The play was very even between the two teams until FJSC double their lead when Freddie Garvey scored after twenty-nine minutes. Dominic Maxwell scored again just after half time which wasquickly followed up with two goals from Archie Ogden for a 5 nil win. The result keeps the Under 13’s three points ahead of the pack with the other four teams challenging for the league title also all winning.
FJSC Under 12 Blacks played away at The Rookery against Southport Trinity Whites and continued their fine run of form with another good win. Three first half goals for FJSC were scored as the Blacks pushed Southport Trinity back into their own half from the kick off. The first goal came from Aaron Pickard who picked up a clearance on the edge of the penalty area and shot arrow like into the far corner to make it 1-0. The second came about following a clever short corner and a cross which Henry Renton converted at the far post to make it 2 nil and the third was scored by Abe Rice as he ran onto a through ball from midfield and scored with a low finish to make it 3-0 at half time.
The second half saw FJSC create further chances as first they had a free kick well saved and then they hit the post, as well as good efforts from both Ethan Richmond and Josh Kearney which went just wide. The fourth goal of the match came about when Evan Hughes broke out of defence and played a pass out wide to Ollie Dean who crossed to Patrick Fleming at the far post, and he controlled the ball well and then scored with an excellent finish to make it 4-0. FJSC scored a fifth from a penalty as Ollie Dean was fouled as he drove into the box, and then stepped up to take the penalty himself scoring low to the keepers left to make it 5 nil. FJSC’s final goal came from Abe Rice who closed down the Southport defence and stole the ball before advancing on the goal and scoring to make it 6 nil. Southport Trinity pulled onegoal back with virtually the last kick of the game scoring with an excellently taken freekick to make the final score 6-1 to FJSC.
This was another good team performance from the Under 12’s and the team’s fifth win in succession. Man of the match was Patrick Fleming.
FJSC Under 11 Whites started confidently against Southport and Ainsdale Amateurs, theteam that had already defeated the Under 11’stwice this season. After making the stronger start and missing a few half-chances, BenHarris played Lucas Lewis through and he finished nicely. The same two boys switched roles for the second goal as the team’s hard work at corners finally paid off when BenHarris scored with a rocket header from aLucas Lewis corner. S & A came back at the end of the first half but FJSC held on well to lead 2-0 at the interval. S & A started the second half strongly and despite a few good saves from goalkeeper Harry Ball, they pulled two goals back to level the score at 2-2. FJSCshowed great fight, composure and fitness to get back on the front foot. The whole team defended really well and creating chances too. It was very much next goal the winner. RalphRenton played Lucas Lewis through and he slotted between the keeper’s legs. Ralph was finally rewarded for his battling performance and gets the credit for clinching it for the Under 11’s a few minutes from the end with a fourth FJSC goal. It was a brilliant all-roundteam performance.
FJSC Under 10 Whites had a very tight gameChurchtown Jags which was played in windy conditions. It was hard fought match with no goals until Archie Weir scored with a well-timed volley after a great corner by man of the match Zac Hooson-Jones.
FJSC Under 9 Whites played Southport Hesketh. On target for the Whites in a good performance were Jemmy Byrne, Clayton Gilbertson and Diego Funes-Cervera.
On Tuesday 14th March FJSC Under 9 Whites play in the Hightown Junior League Cup Final at Firwood Waterloo RUFC against Netherton. The kick-off is at 7.15pm. Support for the team on the night would be most welcome. The match will be played under floodlights.
FJSC Under 9 Reds were at home against Southport FC. It was a competitive and evenly matched first half. Both teams had chances to break the deadlock but it was the Reds who opened the scoring. Tom Murphy won the ball on the half way line and drove forward to slide the ball through to Campbell Woodcock who slotted home with a fine finish to continue his scoring streak in recent games. The Reds continued with positive forward play but Southport equalised shortly before half time.
The second half continued in similar fashion with both sides having chances but it was the Reds who took the lead again when Zac McHugh found the back of the net with a long range shot. There were very good defensive displays from Oliver Crouch, Isaac Pepper andMason Todd as the Reds held firm to the final whistle. The man of the match award went toZac McHugh.
FJSC Under 8 Whites lost for the first time this season. Southport Yellows made the most of the windy conditions and scored three times. Jack Haggart and Henry Williamson replied with one goal each.
It was a very good and sporting match between FJSC Under 8 Blacks and CrosbyStuart. Ethan Catleugh scored the Blacks’ only goal. Crosby Stuart took their chances well.
FJSC Under 7 Whites started well against Southport Trinity Blue. Oliver Parrish gave FJSC the lead after fine dribbling skills from Harry Hughes. Trinity soon equalised. FJSC took the lead again when a Jack Brown free kick found Charlie Ormesher who calmly scored under pressure. All the boys played well and the Under 7’s kept ahead with twogoals scored by Jack Brown and one fromHarry Hughes. Man of the match was defender Joshua Gillespie.
