After a short battle with cancer, Gulzar Mathews has passed away aged 74 years
Gulzar Mathews passed away on 19th May 2022.
After a short battle with cancer, Gulzar has died aged 74.
Born Gulzar Samji in Mombasa, Kenya in 1947, she moved to England in 1964 to train as a nurse in Oxford (Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre, then the Radcliffe). Whilst training, she met Simon, then a student at Magdalen College.
They married in 1969 and had a son, Jason, in 1974 and then a daughter, Selina, in 1977. They moved around the country because of Simon changing jobs - Ealing, Iver, Peterborough and finally Formby in 1982. Throughout that time Gulzar worked in hospitals, often on night duty. In 1988, she switched role to become a practice nurse and worked in several surgeries in Bootle, but finishing her working life with Doctor Goldthorpe (Park Road). She retired in 2008.
She was always a very sociable person and made many close friends in Formby, especially through classes at Formby pool, the U3A and just walking in the woods.
As well as Simon, Jason and Selina, she leaves behind four grandchildren, Albert, Humphrey, Nico and Maya.
She will be sorely missed.
No flowers, but donations may be made to either Queenscourt Hospice or Save The Children (Yemen).
