A very successful weekend at Formby Junior Sports Club

It was a very successful weekend at Formby Junior Sports Club.  FJSC Under 9 Whites have reached the cup final whilst four other teams- FJSC’s Under 12 Blacks, Under 10 Blacks, Under 10 Gold and Under 15 Blacks have all reached the semi-final stages of their respective cup competitions.

REPRESENTATIVE TEAM MATCHES

FJSC Under 9 Whites played away againstSouthport Trinity White in the Craven Minor League Shield semi-final. The Whites had a couple of early chances before FJSC openedthe scoring with a brilliant goal from Charlie Ormesher.  The boys kept pushing for a second goal but were unable to beat the Southport keeper who made numerous saves. Joshua Gillespie and Otto Johnson wereoutstanding in defence but eventually Southport Trinity scored and then went ahead.

In the second half FJSC knew that they had it all to do and after some  brilliant teamwork Charlie Ormesher scored again and thencompleted his hat trick. Oliver Parrish was giving his all to help the team push forward. Elliott Dyment then managed to latch onto a well driven pass before equalising. With the score now lockerd at 4-4  goalkeeper Charles Fazakerley managed to keep his team on level terms by making some wonderful saves.  The final whistle was blown and the match went to penalties.

It had been an outstanding effort by both teams.  In a nail biting shoot out Harry Hughes, Charlie Ormesher, Noah Martin- Gargon and Joshua Gillespie scored their penalties and with the help of Goalkeeper Charles Fazakerley the shoot-out was won 4-2 to see the jubilant FJSC Whites through to the cup final. Man of the Match was Joshua Gillespie.

FJSC Under 12 Blacks went through to thesemi finals of the Hightown Cup after winning 3-1 against Altown United.  FJSC started well and a goal well taken by Charlie Richardson put FJSC 1 nil ahead before half time. In the second half Sylvan O’Hara made it 2-0 before Altown pulled a goal back. A third FJSC goal from Caden Walker sealed the win for FJSC.

FJSC Under 10 Black played away against Crosby Stuart in the quarter final of the Wilf Jenkinson Cup.  The game started out quite tense.

Max Byford, captain for this game, madesome good saves and organised the team well. The Blacks took the lead through Jack Hansenwho pounced on an error to turn his man and score from the edge of the box.  Crosby Stuartswiftly responded to make it 1-1. Shortly after Isaac Melton scored with a header from close range following a great Ashley Jones corner. Crosby Stuart again attempted to respond only to be denied by a last ditch Isaac Melton slide tackle in the box.

After that the FJSC Blacks began to take control of the game whilst Crosby were stilldangerous on the break. Idris Jones then scored a terrific free kick from long range to make it 3-1. Right on half time Isaac Melton popped up again to finish from Idris Jones long throw to give FJSC a 4-1 lead.

The second half continued in the same vein with the Blacks looking to kill off the game. Alex Rowley then won the ball in his own half and powered past the Crosby defence to round the keeper to score an excellent goal. CrosbyStuart managed to pull a goal back following a goalmouth scramble before Ashley Jones and Jack Hansen exchanged passes down the right side for Ash to finish in the bottom corner for a 6-2 victory.

Man of the Match was Max Byford for a commanding captain’s display in goal, and pulling off some crucial saves early on in the game. It was tremendous win for FJSC. Theboys showed fantastic team spirit and togetherness and played some lovely football.  FJSC Under 10 Black will now play Southport FC Yellow in the semi-finals.

FJSC Under 10 Gold was in action against Southport Athletic Black in the Craven Minor League Shield quarter final . The matchstarted off with both teams competing well, but FJSC quickly took control.  The first goal came early on when a well-timed pass from Alfie Marshall found Thomas Carroll who calmly slotted past the keeper. The opposition fought back and equalised midway through the first half.  The Gold team players didn’t lose focus and a second goal from Mason Davies made the score line 2-1. In the second half, Southport Athletic started well but the FJSCdefence held firm, and the team remained composed. Late in the match, a brilliant counter-attack saw Peter McCormick score a third goal, sealing the 3-1 win.

The FJSC Gold team showed great resilience and the disciplined teamwork led to this well-deserved result. Player of the Match was Alfie Marshall.  FJSC Gold will now play Netherton Junior Lions in the semi-final.

FJSC Under 15 Black  Saturday team lost 2 nil to Remyca in the mini group match of the Hightown Cup.  Although losing this match the team still go through to the semi final stage because of their previous results.

FJSC Under 15 Blacks played Athletico FC in the Tuebrook Junior League on Sunday. It was an end to end match.  Athletico scored first but FJSC were soon on level terms when Charlie Garvey scored with a twenty yard free kick.  Athletico went ahead again to lead 2-1.

FJSC’s Taj-Deen Abdulai then changed the outcome of the match by being in the right place at the right time due to his striker’s instinct and scored a hat trick of goals before half time to see his team go into a 4-2 lead.  FJSC managed the game very well in the second half and the score remained 4-2.  Man of the Match was Luca Massey who played in a unsual centre half position due to squad injuries.  FJSC are in a very creditable fourth position in the league.

FJSC Under 14 Blacks had a tough game against high flying Kirkby and after an encouraging start, which saw some FJSC create chances on the break, Patrick Fleming hit the cross bar and Riley Higgs made some excellent saves in goal. Kirkby took the lead with a shot from

the edge of the box and then scored twice more to go into half time  3-0 up.

The second half saw FJSC come out fighting and they scored a well worked goal as they pressed Kirkby all over the pitch. Ben Cargillfound space in the box and crossed low to the far post where Joe Norrie came sliding in to score. Patrick Fleming then hit a thunderous shot against the cross bar for the second time in the game, before both Ollie Dean and Ethan Richmond went close to scoring. Kirby restored their advantage with a well struck shot to make it 4-1, but FJSC continued to push forward sensing the momentum was with them and Tom Donnelly won the ball high up the pitch before combining well with Ethan Richmond who drove forward and scored a well-deserved goal. Time ran out for the Blacks who finished the game strongly, as Kirkby won 4-2.

There were some excellent performances all over the pitch but Player of the Match went to Patrick Fleming who caused problems down the left wing and defended well all game.

FJSC Under 13 Blacks produced a really strong performance defeating River Juniors, a team that they had lost to only a couple of weeks ago. In the first half FJSC weredominant with Jen Heron and Will Madutlelacontrolling the middle.  Fabian Reilly and Connor Howells caused problems and BenHarris and Reuben Burke kept the River Junior’s defence very busy. Three very good goals were scored.  Ben Harris scored a brace and Will Madutlela’s third FJSC goal virtuallyput the game out of sight within the first half.

In the second half Alastair Bosenquet tackledwell and fresh legs given by Seth McNamaraand Luke Greenbank allowed the team torotate.  All of this was propped up by a very solid back five of Henry Wynne, Joe Tucker,Lucas Lewis, Ben Gregory and Man of the Match Eoin Dwyer.

FJSC Under 13 Black Sunday team was at home against a very technical Southport Athletic. The first half was relatively subdued as FJSC held the middle of the park andsmothered the few chances Southport had.  This was mainly due to Seb Burdett-Clarke’sexcellent positioning supported throughout bythe back four.

Gradually FJSC gained control and started to win every challenge. The lads were cheering as a collective every single tackle and clearance. Ben Harris and Man of the Match Connor Howells scored one goal each to make sure of the three points.  The FJSC Blacks are currently in third place in the Premier Division.

FJSC Under 13 Whites had very tough game against top of the league Crosby Stuart JFC but were always in the game. Conceding from corners was FJSC’s downfall, but the lads didn’t give in all game especially Ben Gregory who was persistent in winning the ball back and slotted a nice finish late on in the game. Despite losing 4-1 against a strong Crosby side the team should be really proud of themselves. It was a very good effort.  George Rowan was solid at the back but Man of the Match was Ben Gregory who was tireless and deserved his goal.

FJSC U12 Whites continued their trend of starting games slowly this time on their travels to Churchtown Jaguars. It was Jags who started well and scored four times in the opening exchanges. FJSC grew into the game as the half developed and were unlucky not to find the net with efforts from Archie Marron.

It was a much better second half performancewhich started with a headed goal from NikKostakis after a perfect delivery from a corner by Zac Hooson-Jones. Jags added a couple more to win 7-2 despite the efforts of Man of the Match Harry Jones in goal. A late consolation penalty from Matthew Crutchleyadded to his tally for the season.

FJSC Under 11 Red travelled to a muddy Meols Cop pitch to face Southport FC Blacks. Southport started the match stronger but it was the Reds who took the lead when a Tom Murphy long range shot rebounded off the Southport woodwork and was guided into the net by Chase Lowen.  Southport equalised from the penalty spot.

After half time FJSC made the most of their chances.  Chase Lowen scored another goal.  Tom Murphy hit another long range shot for the Reds third goal and then James Hannan sent a rocket of a shot into the top corner of the net for a fourth goal. Southport added a goal before the end.  Chase Lowen was Man of the Match.  Isaac Pepper’s midfield display and Tom Murphy’s hard working display also deserve a mention.

FJSC Under 8 Blacks played against Burscough Dynamo Green.  Dynamo started well and Oscar Craven in defence and goalkeeper Harley Rea had to be at their best to thwart the oppositions efforts.  The Blacks settled down and Ted Middleton gave FJSC the lead with a well-placed shot.

Teddy Ball went in goal for the second half and made some fine saves.  A Sam O’Brien pass found Isaac Murphy who took his chance well to score.  With little time remaining Isaac Murphy scored his second goal of the match with a tap in.

It was another pleasing team display.  Sebastian Downes, Theo Dunn and James Taylor all worked tirelessly to secure the victory along with keeping a clean sheet.  Joint Players of the Match were Oscar Craven and Teddy Ball.  See squad photograph above.

FJSC Under 7 White had a tough match against another new team Southport Trinity White. The score line did not reflect the competitiveness of the game.  FJSC had their chances but a number of shots sailed just wide of the post or on a few occasions brought out great saves from the Trinity goalkeeper.

Southport Trinity had a very good player who scored four of their goals including two very special goals from near the halfway line and was the real difference between the two sides. There were a lot more lessons learnt but everyone is delighted with the progress this very new FJSC team has made in a very short length of time. Man of the Match was Luca Sheehan-Selby.

FJSC Under 7 Black started the game slowly against Southport Trinity Blue.  The Blacks began to play much better and Ollie Jones scored a well-taken goal.  Trinity equalised before half time.  A half time team talk worked wonders and FJSC scored five second half goals without reply.  Ollie Jones completed his hat trick and Tayo Popoola scored twice. Archie Parrish’s work rate and passing was great to see.  Cole Jones and Max Healey battled well and created goals. Albee Fairhurst made some superb saves and Theo Thomas had an excellent match in defence.

FJSC Under 6 Whites played only their third competitive match in the Sefton Development League and all the boys were very excited before the match.  Their opponents AkidemyBlack took a two goal lead.  FJSC settled down and it was soon all square with a goal each from Thomas Daly and Teddy Gillingham.  Long kicks from goalkeeper William Laughley set up another goal each for Teddy Gillingham and Thomas Daly.  Akidermy added goals themselves in this highly entertaining match.  Toby Woodcock worked hard in the middle but in a very exciting finish Edison Foy capped a Man of the Match performance by scoring twice to see the match finish all square.   The work rate of the whole team was very good and already the boys are looking forward to their next match in a week’s time.
