A very busy time for Formby Junior Sports Club with end of season matches being played

It is a very busy time at Formby Junior Sports Club with end of season Representative team matches being played, three Saturday morning Inter Club sessions still to go, free Taster Sessions continuing and preparations underway for the Annual Presentation Evening.  In addition to this FJSC is looking ahead and is already making plans for next season which will be starting in September.

FJSC REPRESENTATIVE MATCHES

FJSC Under 13’s Sunday team have had mixed fortunes over the last week.  In midweek the team played Freshfield FC.   After going a goal down league leaders FJSC fought back and after two shots hit the post and great saves from the Freshfield keeper an equaliser came courtesy of Archie Ogden in the sixty-eighth minute.  In a thrilling finish Freshfield scored from a last minute free kick to win 2-1.   FJSC’s man of the match was Isaac Burns.  FJSC’s unbeaten league record had gone and three vital points had been lost.   The boys needed to quickly bounce back from this setback.

On Sunday in another local derby the FJSC Under 13’s went a goal down to GreenloonsYellow.   Thomas Prior came to the rescue and equalised for FJSC before half time.  Back to their best in the second half FJSC took the lead when Dominic Maxwell scored.  Two goals from Archie Ogden and another strike from Dominic Maxwell gave FJSC a 5-1 victory.   Man of the match was Hugo Jamieson.  With other results also going their way FJSC Under 13’s are top of the league.  There are still a few matches to play in a short period of time so the Craven Minor Under 13 Premier Division is sure to go to the wire.

FJSC Under 13’s Saturday team lost 4-3 to JN Sports in an excellent match.   Scoring one goal each for FJSC were Beat Ulusoy from a penalty, Charlie Garvey and man of the matchFreddie Garvey.

FJSC Under 12 Blacks played away against Southport Hesketh in their penultimate match of the season.  FJSC started confidently but against the run of play, Southport played a long ball forward and as the FJSC defence tried to clear the ball, it was diverted into the goal to give Hesketh an early lead.  The Under 12’s picked themselves up and went on the attack, creating several chances. Patrick Fleming went close first with a header that went just over, and then Ethan Richmond saw two powerful shots hit the crossbar. Abe Rice went close himself to scoring before then playing an excellent through ball to Henry Renton who ran clear of the defence, but his shot was well saved. Charlie Knowles alsosaw his long-range effort tipped over the bar by the Hesketh goalkeeper, which meant despite being the stronger team, FJSC finished the first half 1-0 down.

The second half saw FJSC control possession and push Hesketh back into their own half.  A deserved equaliser came through Ethan Richmond who collected a right-wing cross from Ollie Dean, turned cleverly and then drove a low shot in at the far post to make it 1-1. Patrick Fleming then created and scored a second for FJSC when he ran at the defence and found some space before shooting low to make it 2-1. Ollie Dean added a third goal, which was scored from an excellent free kick that was taken from a tight angle on the left and was fired into the far corner of the goal. FJSC continued to put their hosts under pressure as Josh Kearney went close to scoring, but it was Ollie Dean who scored again to make it 4-1 when he intercepted a pass and ran clear of the Hesketh defence before sliding a shot past the keeper.

There were several notable performances in an excellent team display, but man of the match was awarded to Sam Uttley for a strong defensive display.

After a 4-4 draw last time FJSC Under 11 Whites played against Birkdale United, another closely contested match was expected and so it was to be. This was the first time for a few weeks where it felt like both teams really played well. Naturally the story of the game gets built around the goals scored but the play all round was fantastic and everyone watching was delighted to see a high-quality performance from Keepers, Defence, Midfield and Forwards.

Around ten minutes in, Ben Harris and LucaMihai combined nicely to work the ball through to Lucas Lewis who fired home for a 1 nil lead. A rare lapse in the FJSC box gave the space for Birkdale to equalise and after a break Birkdale were through again to take the lead before half time. Dylan Hyslop came soclose to making it three matches in a row with a goal line clearance.  The Under 11’s showed real steel and competitiveness all over the pitch. Although others did too, Ralph Renton, Sylvan O’Hara, Nick Kostakis and GeorgeRowan led the way and really made it hard for Birkdale.

There were chances at both ends and FJSCcame close on many occasions without quite being clinical enough. Harry Ball was superb in goal and dominated not only his box but most of the FJSC half whilst Birkdale also hit the bar and missed a penalty. A screamer from outside the box by Ben Harris with less than five minutes to go made it 2-2 and it looked like the final result was to be a well-fought draw. With a couple of minutes left, a scramble in the FJSC box was well finished for a Birkdale winner. It was a great match and, on another day the final result could easily have gone the other way.

FJSC Under 10 White travelled to Meols Cop to face Southport FC White. SFC started well and the game was level after the first fifteenminutes before a superb corner from JackRichards was headed home by Archie Weir. Further first half goals followed from IsaacJones and Nate Daniels to give FJSC the lead at half time.

Jack Richards opened the scoring in the second half before a brace from Isaac Jonesput the game beyond SFC. It was a good team performance with standout performances fromRowan Jones in defence and Isaac Jones with a hat trick. The final league game of the season is away against Southport & Ainsdale next week before the season ends with the annual Southport FC Tournament at Haig Avenue.

FJSC Under 9’s Saturday team were in action against Kingsway. It was a good team display.  Diego Funes-Cervera scored three times and Kayden Watters added a brace to see FJSC edge the match in their favour.

On FJSC Under 9’s played Town Green.  Diego Funes-Cervera scored his second hat trick of the weekend and Josh Halpin also scored in another very pleasing result for the boys.

FJSC Under 9 Blacks played their final home match of the season.  Their opponents were Southport FC.  The only goals of the match were scored by the Blacks in the first half.   Joseph Kenyon opened the scoring.  The second goal came from a corner taken by George Croughan.  Huey Stevenson kept his eyes on the cross and timed his volley to perfection for a great goal.  Rory Rankine, Oliver Hall- Gleeson and Sam Halliwell tackled well throughout the match.  Finn McDerby and Romijn Lijnders worked tirelessly to help new goalkeeper Henry Moors keep a clean sheet with some brilliant saves.

FJSC Under 8 Whites finished an incredible season with an accomplished performance against a very good Southport Trinity team. FJSC took control from the early stages with probing attacks that kept Southport Trinity on the back foot.  The opening goal came from James Smith’s tricky wing play and hispinpoint cross found Jack Hansen who slotted the ball home. Once in front FJSC stepped up another gear with Henry Williamson causingpanic with his pace all game deservedlygrabbed a brace.  Jack Haggart then scored the final goal to cap off a brilliant season.

INTER CLUB SECTION

The Taster sessions for boys wishing to come along and have a coaching session followed by a friendly match has been an outstanding success and will continue until the end of the season.   Last Saturday’s Inter Club was another very enjoyable morning.  One of the very pleasing aspects has been to see so many boys making new friends through their love of football.   The recipe of fun and fitness through enjoying playing a game of football with no pressure is working extremely well.  A big thank you to all the parents who are each Saturday encouraging all the young footballers and of course to the coaches and voluntary helpers who are all doing a marvellous job.  You can see the confidence the children are gaining through this very noticeable warm and friendly atmosphere.  It’s great.
