A sinkhole has appeared in Formby on Chapel Lane

A sinkhole has opened in Formby on Chapel Lane. Right now, it’s only quite small but it has got bigger the last few hours.

The sinkhole is right outside the Iceland Store on Chapel Lane on the road surface.

This has been reported to Sefton Council.

What is a sinkhole?

A sinkhole is essentially any hole in the ground created by erosion and the drainage of water. They can be just a few feet across or large enough to swallow whole buildings. Although they’re often the result of natural processes they can also be triggered by human activity. Once the hole has appeared, the land on the surface then collapses into this gap.
