A great weekend for Formby Junior Sports Club
There were only a few Formby Junior Sports Club Representative team matches played last weekend due to half term. The highlights included FJSC Under 15’s win in a thrilling finish and FJSC Under 14’s well-earned draw. There were good results for FJSC Under 10 Blacks and FJSC Under 7’s, a very resilient effort from the FJSC Under 10 Gold team and a very good attendance at Inter Club.
REPRESENTATIVE TEAM MATCHES
FJSC Under 15 Black continued their impressive start to the season in the Tuebrook Junior League with a thrilling 3-1 victory over Mini Huyton Soccer (Boca). FJSC were missing three of their regular back four. As a result a reshuffle saw Charlie Garvey, Luca Massey and Freddie Garvey all playing in unfamiliar defensive positions. All three boys played exceptionally well.
It was a very tight first half against the team one place above FJSC in the league and no goals were scored. Early in the second half FJSC took the lead when Archie Ogden scored following a through ball from Charlie Garvey. Boca drew level with just eight minutes remaining. With three minutes left FJSC were awarded with a free kick twenty yards from goal. Up stepped Charlie Garvey who unleashed an unstoppable shot into the top corner of the Boca net to give FJSC a 2-1 lead. One minute later from a Thomas Prior assist Archie Ogden made sure of the three points with a third goal for his team.
Man of the Match was Daniel Hill who defended excellently throughout the game. FJSC Under 15 Black have now played six league matches and have won four which takes the team up into fourth position in the twelve team division.
FJSC Under 14s Blacks extended their unbeaten run to four matches in the Skelmersdale Junior League with a well-earned 1-1 draw against Southport and Ainsdale Amateurs on Sunday. FJSC’s goal came in the first half after Evan Hughes won the ball in midfield and played a pass out to Tom Donnelly on the left who drove forward beating the last defender for pace and finished with a fantastic strike into the corner of the goal.
FJSC were the stronger team in the second half and were unlucky not to extend their lead as both Josh Kearney and Patrick Fleming went close to scoring. S. and A. equalised with a header from a well worked corner. The Man of the Match award went to Charlie Knowles for his energy and drive down the right hand side of the pitch, defending strongly and attacking with pace when the opportunity arose.
FJSC Under 10 Black played in another local derby against FJSC Reds.
The Blacks started well and took an early lead with a goal from Alex Rowley from Olly Stinson’s assist. Alex Rowley then created a lovely assist to put Ashley Jones through on goal to score and double the lead. The Blacks kept up the pressure and Ashley Jones looked to score another but it unluckily deflected off one of the Reds.
The Reds started the second half very well but the defence of Mason Curry and Idris Jones remained strong. An Idris Jones long throw-in deflected off one of the Reds to hit the back of the net. There were lots of great attempts on goal from the Blacks. Asher Fields, Idris Jones, Jack Hansen and Ethan Catleugh were all unlucky not to score. The Reds came back into the game again and Max Byford had tomake some great saves before Kian Turley scored his first goal for the Reds. Idris Jones was Man of the Match for his excellent distribution of the ball from the defence and attempts on goal.
FJSC Under 10 Gold had a testing encounter against Southport Trinity and demonstrated remarkable defensive resilience and unwavering commitment. Despite Trinity's sustained possession and territorial advantage, FJSC’s resolute defensive setup frustrated Trinity’s attacking efforts, largely restricting them to long-range attempts.
Both goalkeepers turned in exceptional performances between the posts, proving crucial in keeping the FJSC Gold team firmly in the contest. What stood out was the team's relentless work rate without the ball, with players consistently tracking back and executing crucial defensive interventions.
Jacob Cargill epitomized this fighting spirit, putting in a standout performance laden with determined tackles and defensive contributions. His tireless commitment to winning back possession and disrupting Trinity's rhythm set the standard for the entire team.
The collective defensive discipline never wavered throughout the match, with every player demonstrating admirable grit and determination in the face of sustained pressure. It was particularly encouraging to see such a unified defensive effort, with players consistently putting their bodies on the line to thwart Trinity's advances. In the end a single goal from Southport Trinity separated the two teams but it was a wonderful effort by the depleted FJSC Gold squad who continue to improve each week.
FJSC Under 8 Blacks were away again to a well organised Southport and Birkdale team. It was a tough start with S. and B. on the attack. Thanks to good defensive play from Oscar Craven and the fine goalkeeping skills of Isaac Murphy the Blacks kept in the game.
Despite going 4 nil down in the first half FJSC’s effort never wavered. There was a change of goalkeepers with Teddy Ball going in goal and Isaac Murphy moving up front. The Blacks held their own and then scoredwith a well-placed cheeky chip over the keeper from Isaac Murphy following a long range effort from Sam O’Brien.
Theo Dunn made his debut appearance for FJSC and showed some promising defensive play. It was also good to see Edward Bell back in the team. Man of the Match was Isaac Murphy.
FJSC Under 7 Black produced a very good team performance in a brilliant and entertaining match against Southport and Ainsdale Blue. FJSC quickly took the lead and confidence grew. The Blacks kept up the tempo and scored some superb team goals and well taken individual goals as well. All fiveoutfield boys who were available to play in this half term Sunday match were on the score sheet namely Harry Brown, Ollie Jones, Theo Thomas, Tayo Popoola and Cole Jones. Albee Fairhurst once again played well in goal.
Man of the Match was Tayo Popoola who had a great game and showed some fantastic skillswhich was topped off with a super goal.
Cole Jones was awarded the medal for his determined and well timed tackling.
