A final farewell to Jim Charnock yesterday - 21/01/33 to 12/02/21
Dear Formby Bubble:
It is amazing what can be achieved within the current restrictions.
We said goodbye to Jim yesterday, Tuesday 9th March 2021.
It was a lovely service with a traditional touch of us walking him from his home of 53yrs round to St Peter's Church Formby.
We are quite humbled by the kindness, support, love and respect shown towards Jim by all those that were there on the route. Clearly we would have had a completely packed Church had the restrictions not been in place.
Jim was carried into Church by his two sons, two grandsons and two nephews. A great honour for all of them to be able to do this, we are incredibly proud of them all but especially Thomas Charnock at only 16yrs.
Every grandchild & Jim’s two sons Steve & Mike spoke beautifully during the service that was impeccable in it’s presentation, Anne Taylor and David Holroyd’s expertise was clearly evident. Steve gave a great tribute to Jim helping us all to smile while remembering some of his comments, milestones and achievements within the varied clubs he belonged and local traditions that he founded (Carol Wagon).
The frustration at not being able to sing along to either of the hymns Jim had chosen was hopefully eased by the viewing of the picture tribute. As so many could not attend we included pictures not only of Jim but also the loved ones he shared so many happy times with.
The route from the Church to Cassidy’s again had many paying their respects. We have been inundated with lovely messages, each one telling us of another friend having been out there that we had perhaps missed. To each and every one of you please know how grateful and incredibly touched we are.
Hopefully we did Jim proud, just like we are incredibly proud of him having generated such an amazing show of community love and respect.
Countless messages, a true gentleman who cared for so many with a twinkle in his eye.
Thanks and credit also to Iain & Graham of Dean Brothers Funeral Directors, Diane Clarke, Steven Clarke of the Bloom Room and Hayley Tully.
All those involved in the funeral business have been beyond busy over the last year, in many cases working 7 day weeks.
Despite this, the service and care that we received throughout this period (a very drawn out 3 1/2 weeks) has been exemplary from the Bereavment office at the Royal Hospital to Dean Bros Formby, St Peter’s Church and the Bloom Room.
Thank you everyone.
Mike, Debs, Issy, Thomas & Lizzy Charnock
