Formby Junior Sports Club - Franks report
Formby Junior Sports Club’s Under 16’s, Under 15’s and Under 13’s all had excellent results last weekend. FJSC Under 16 Black played away at Rainford Rangers Inter, a new team to the league on Saturday. Five key players were unable to play due to self-isolation and injuries. The Under 16’s started brightly and playing into a strong headwind the FJSC boys managed to lift the ball over the top of the Rainford defence a few times with one chance being converted very nicely by Rylie Read. Rainford came back strongly and equalised late in the first half. After the interval more use of a tail wind was made by FJSC. From two corners from Conor Leyland, two goals were scored. Joe Nel superbly headed home from the first corner to give FJSC a 2-1 lead and from a second corner kick again taken by Conor Leyland the ball went straight into the Rainford net for the all- important third goal. The advantage of the wind nearly resulted in a fourth goal when Jack Taylor’s free kick from the half way line hit the Rainford crossbar. Jacob Duckworth had an excellent game at right back and was duly awarded man of the match. Charlie Downey also had a good game in midfield. The final 3-1 result will give much confidence to the team for future matches. FJSC Under 15’s produced a fantastic team performance against a good Southport Trinity side. The Under 15’s were organised from the start, kept possession well and proved difficult to break down. There was excellent play across the pitch. Luke Honour constantly threatened the home team’s defence and went on to score a hat trick. In the 8 nil win Ellis Parry also scored twice and there was one goal each for Bobby Hersey, Marc Whitelaw and Henry Peck. Goalkeeper Rhys Hack made some fantastic saves towards the end of the game. Man of the match was Samuel Colbourne who had a solid defensive game and showed a huge amount of determination throughout the eighty minutes. FJSC Under 13 Black produced an excellent performance against Southport Trinity Blues with some lovely football played. The boys continued were they left off last week, playing out from the back and looking dangerous throughout. There were some excellent all-round performances, but special mention must go to James Foster, who was excellent in midfield and scored his first ever goal for the club in the 12-1 victory. Oscar Fletcher and Alfie Finney also scored three goals each and with two goals apiece were Isaac Bird and Joe Finnegan. In very blustery conditions FJSC Under 11 Saturday team played Northern FC. The Under 11’s scored two goals in each half with one goal each from man of the match Callum Gray, Charlie Garvey, Josh Adderley and James Cook. It was a great team performance. On Sunday the FJSC Under 11 Black were in action against Southport Athletic. The boys played very well with no substitutes available. It was another pleasing display. Dominic Maxwell scored a hat trick. There were two goals each from Archie Ogden and Callum Gray and one goal each for Charlie Garvey and Freddie Garvey. Man of the match was Max Hall. FJSC Under 10 White played at home against a good Southport Athletic team. The Whites started well but a flurry of goals conceded just before half time proved difficult to recover from. Two goals from Max Berrie in the second half lifted confidence but Southport Athletic finished the stronger team. FJSC Under 10 Black played away against Southport and Ainsdale. Formby started the game strongly but went behind to a well taken free kick that went in off the post which was followed by a second goal shortly afterwards. The Under 10’s regrouped and came close to scoring themselves with a good strike by Bobby Marshall which was cleared off the line at the second attempt. The second half saw chances for both teams and some excellent goal keeping at both ends, but it was Formby who pulled one back following a skilful run by Ollie Dean down the left, who then squared the ball to Lewis Donoghue to finish well. FJSC piled on the pressure, looking for an equaliser with a series of free kicks and corners towards the end of the game, with one hitting the crossbar but it was Southport who scored with the last kick of the game from a free kick that bounced back off the post before being tapped in. It was an excellent and hard fought performance from FJSC Under 10 Blacks with man of the match this week going to Ollie Dean. FJSC Under 8’s played Crosby Stuart. There were some promising individual performances against strong opposition. Harrison Taylor and Isaac Burgess played well. Man of the match was Matthew Crutchley for some great goalkeeping in the first half and a good goa in the second half. FJSC Under 7 Whites played Southport Trinity Blues on a lovely bright morning at the Rookery. The Whites were slow to get into their stride in both halves which proved costly. However once Formby got into the game they were more than a match for their strong opponents. Great goals by Mason Stringer and Diego Funes-Cervera were highlights along with another man of the match performance from Joshua Halpin who played well in all positions. Joshua Tallon, Clayton Gilbertson and Jaiden Crosby all worked tirelessly out of possession and made sure that the opposition did not have any time on the ball. Thomas Crutchley had a strong performance in goal and was unlucky not to get on the scoresheet at the other end. INTER CLUB FOOTBALL Considering absentees due to self-isolation the attendance at Inter Club was very encouraging particularly in the Year One and Year Two age groups. There is no doubt that there is much improvement in the level of skills shown by all the boys in all age groups. The combination of excellent coaching followed by friendly matches is working well. All the Inter Club games have been a joy to watch with plenty of goals like in the Year Two sixteen goal thriller between the Orange team and the Reds. See photograph above.
