St Luke’s new vicar originates from Northern Ireland and has been married to wife Liz (from Northumberland) for 13 years. They have two young boys, and have lived as a family in Liverpool for the past four years. Prior to their arrival in Liverpool, Matt started his training for ministry at Oak Hill Theological College in London. Before London, Matt and Liz spent 11 years in Cambridge where they met and where Liz was a cardiology registrar in hospitals around East Anglia. Liz is now a geriatrics registrar. At Cambridge, Matt spent a few years working in research using earthquakes to study the Earth’s structure, and a few years working on image recognition and face recognition for a software company.
Matt was ordained in Liverpool Cathedral and has been in the Liverpool Diocese ever since. He was initially at a church in Toxteth, where he spent a large part of his ministry with Iranian and Kurdish asylum seekers, many of whom had fled their homes due to religious persecution. More recently Matt has been a curate in a large suburban church in Aigburth with a growing children’s and families’ ministry.
The Rev Dr Matt Davis states in St Luke’s Church September magazine: “It’s our prayer that as we get to know you all and minister alongside you that we would be a great encouragement and help as the Lord continues to grow his kingdom.”
