Formby Junior Sports Club - Frank Rourke's report

Formby Junior Sports Club’s two Under 10 Representative teams continue their excellent season so far with impressive weekend results

. The Under 10’s Saturday team were in cup action against Northern FC Blues. FJSC started brightly but were denied an early lead due to some great saves by the Northern goalkeeper. Eventually Freddie Garvey scored with a shot from the half way line to give FJSC the lead. Northern soon equalised and went into a 2-1 lead scoring just before half time. In a very exciting second half FJSC drew level and then in the final minute scored the winner for a 3-2 victory. The second half goals were scored by Luca Massey and Andres Funes- Cervera. Man of the match was Freddie Garvey.

FJSC Under 10’s Sunday team played Hesketh Reds. It was a close match with Freddie Garvey scoring from a corner in the first half. Max Hall was also on target with a goal after the interval, again from a corner. Franky Moon was man of the match.

The West Lancs Girls’ League fixture between the Youth Divison’s top two teams – FJSC Under 18’s and Blackpool FC was called off due to frost and will be re-scheduled.

FJSC Under 18 Boys played Southport Trinity Whites away from home. FJSC put on a good display of football and the game was effectively over by half time. Joe McElhinney put FJSC a goal up after fourteen minutes with a well-taken left footed strike to the keeper’s left hand side. FJSC were awarded a penalty on the twenty-one minute mark, which was converted well by Lewis Constable. He converted another after thirty-seven minutes and Alex Winstanley scored with a magnificent right footed strike from outside of the box to make it 0-4 at half time. FJSC made some changes at half time, which allowed Southport Trinity White back into the match and they pulled one back after fifteen minutes of the second half. Each side could have scored more goals in the final thirty minutes but the score remained 1-4 for FJSC. Sam Kendrick was man of the match with a great performance.

FJSC Under 18’s are currently top of the Championship Division.

FJSC Under 16 Girls’ Jets lost 5 nil to Bootle FC. There was a very disappointing 9 nil defeat for FJSC Under 15 Blacks at the hands of league leaders Rainford Rangers in the cup. The Blacks only trailed two nil at half time but lacked their usual fight back spirit on this occasion and conceded seven second half goals. With no fixtures for a few weeks the opportunity for extra training sessions will help to rebuild confidence in the squad.

FJSC Under 14 Whites won 12-3 against FJSC Under 14 Blacks. Harry Knowles gave the Blacks an early lead. The Blacks then defended very well in the first half against a very lively Whites forward line. There were chances at both ends throughout the match. Steven Mordaunt was excellent in the centre of the Whites midfield and gradually the Whites began to breakdown the Blacks play, regain possession and quickly move forward to create several chances in front of goal. The Whites scorers were Ellis Parry with four goals and with two goals each Steven Mordaunt, Harry Graham and Luke Honour. Henry Peck and Bobby Hersey also added one goal each for the Whites. Scoring for the Blacks were Jacob Lewis with two goals and Harry Knowles.

FJSC Under 12 Blacks played their first game since before the Christmas break and came up against a very strong Birkdale United team. The boys were very rusty and Birkdale were soon in their stride and went into a two goal lead. Joe Finnegan played well in goal and Finlay Clarke marshalled the defence well. The Under 12’s created a few opportunities on the break with Oscar Fletcher and Ed Poole going close. Birkdale were ruthless however and finished the first half 4 nil up. A bit of reorganisation at half time saw a much better second half display by the Under 12’s. The team created chances and were much more competitive. Ollie Shaw was brought down for a penalty which Oscar Fletcher calmly dispatched to make it 4-1. Daniel Raw played well at the back and Alfie Finney and James Foster worked hard on the wings. Birkdale scored again before a fine solo goal from Oscar Fletcher made it 5-2. Birkdale added a sixth goal late on. It was a tough game but it was a much improved second half performance by FJSC to take into next week’s game against Southport FC.

FJSC Under 8 Girls Bobcats started slowly against Ormskirk FC and conceded three goals in a minute. The Bobcats were soon on the score sheet themselves and a very exciting match developed with plenty of goals from the two teams. Gabriella Otty scored four times and Shanice Jones also scored twice for the Bobcats. Emilia Guy, Skylar Davies and Isabella Massey all played well in another very good effort from the Bobcats.

FJSC Under 7’s match was cancelled due to a frozen pitch.

FJSC Under 6’s played three matches at the Netherton Activity Centre on Sunday. It was bitterly cold at 9.30am when FJSC played Southport Trinity Blue. After a slow start, the boys got into the game. Harley Evans was exceptional and gave his all and ensured the game remained competitive, supported ably by Josh Tallon. The highlights were the two goals from Harley along with some excellent saves by him when he later went in goal. Ted McAuley defended well and made three goal line clearances. Joseph Kenyon also scored and Jaiden Crosby battled well throughout. Man of the match was Harley Evans. In the second game at 10.30am against Southport Trinity Whites, FJSC soon got into their stride. Mason Stringer scored a hat trick early on to put Formby In control. He was assisted on a number of occasions from the hard work and pressing of Jude Massey. Rory Rankine continued his development with some great goals from midfield. Diego Funes-Cervera produced a strong performance and scored two goals. In the final third man of the match Joshua Halpin and Max McAuley both got on the score sheet as well and put in good displays in defence and attack.

The 11.30am match was against ESC. The young FJSC team concentrated on their positions and it worked wonders. Plenty of chances were created and Ryan Lamb and Oliver Hall- Gleeson scored. Two more Ryan Lamb efforts also hit the post and Noah Walker-Hall also went close as well. Man of the match was Oscar Howard who was back on top form.
