Formby Rotary Club cock-a-hoop with Laurel and Hardy
The Club recently held a Croquet Evening. The Southport Croquet Club hosted the event and four members of the Club helped Rotarians get the hang of what is a fascinating sport. The Rotary Club members have played a number of times but there's such a gap between the outings that any skills learned have usually dissipated by the time they return to it. But by the end of the evening skills and tactics had improved and all agreed it had been an entertaining evening. The Club would like to thank the members of the Croquet Club who coached us on the evening. A meal at The Fishermans Rest completed the evening.
Later in the week the Club was involved in manning a Rotary stall at the Southport Flower Show with some of the Southport Rotary Clubs. One of the Rotary Shelter boxes was erected to show what these survival boxes contain.
The boxes are sent out to disaster areas and contain all the necessary equipment needed to survive in the early days after a major disaster. They are not meant to be permanent abodes but provide shelter and the means to boil water, keep warm and provide a basic meal if food can be found. As you can see from the picture Laurel and Hardy turned up to keep Rotarians Val Hignett and Bill Wright company. Fortunately they didn't get the stall 'into another fine mess'! Rotary is always looking out for new members. If you think you might enjoy helping the community both local and international at the same time as having fun then please contact the Club and come along to a meeting.
