Formby Car Show attracts new owners and is a great success
Classic car owners basked in the sunshine at the second edition of Formby Car Show, organised by ODMC (Ormskirk and District Motor Club), last Sunday. Running alongside the Formby Live! family fun day in the grounds of Formby Pool on 30th June, car owners travelled from around the area including Southport, Scarisbrick, Ormskirk and of course Formby to display their cars. As an element within the fun day event, the show is rapidly gaining momentum with almost double the number of cars being displayed on Sunday compared to its inception last year. Many exhibitors commented that they prefer to display their vehicles more often at smaller friendlier shows like Formby Car Show than the large commercial shows that are, as a consequence, losing momentum. While some owners were long-time owners, others were relative newcomers to the classic car movement, John Cooper having bought ‘Maude’, his Morris quite recently and the Ford Escort Popular owned by Allan Foster for only the last year, bagging the award for Best in Show. Also winning an award were the Elliot family whose Lotus Excel won the Wade Neil Award for best young entrant.
