Formby Junior Sports Club’s Annual Presentation Evening was held at St. Jerome’s Church Hall on Friday June 14 th in front of a packed audience.
Club Chairman and Master of Ceremonies Frank Rourke paid tribute to all the many voluntary helpers who had helped in the organisation of Formby Junior Sports Club since it was founded sixty years ago.
He said for a club to have lasted sixty years was a remarkable achievement. Frank went on to say that all clubs depend very much upon long standing support and in FJSC’s case that is the backroom staff and on the day helpers that is the Executive Committee.
The FJSC Executive Committee of Ray Highton, Marg Rourke, John Warren, Ken Craven, Keith Jones and Mike Hughes were introduced and then the award presentation began first with the FJSC Inter Club Awards.

All FJSC’s Inter Club organisers were also thanked for their help during the season, as were the volunteer referees and parents who assisted with goals before and after matches. It was then the time for the Representative Team Awards. All FJSC’s teams were applauded for their efforts throughout
the season. A special mention was given to FJSC Under 8 Girls’, FJSC Under 10 Rockets and FJSC Under 14 United for gaining honours. FJSC Under 9 Boys’ were congratulated for winning the Jim Rourke Cup. This was very fitting in the club’s 60 th year. Finally there was a big round of applause for the boys of FJSC Under 14’s who against the odds won the Under 14 cup at the very end of the season.
The twenty- nine team managers and their assistants were collectively thanked for looking after their teams so well during the season.

Heidi Pybis (Under 7/8 Bobcats), Ella Holden (Under 8 Galaxy), Grace Doyle (Under 10 Rockets), Isabelle Parkinson (Under 10 Tornado), Eva Meredith (Under 11 Athletico), Kate Jones (Under 12 Valencia), Evie Law (Under 13 Real), Sophie Hughes (Under 13 Albion), Evie Stanbrook (Under 14 United), Dot Russell-Gajos (Under 15 Jets), Ana Waite (Under 16) and Charlotte Armstrong (Under 17).
The final two awards of the evening were then presented.
These awards- The Glyn Mason Memorial Awards are FJSC’s most important awards and to make the presentations were Glyn’s sisters Vicki and Lara. Also present were family members Dr. John Rowlands (Glyn’s dad) and son-in-law Darren.
THE GLYN MASON MEMORIAL TROPHY FOR FJSC’S TEAM OF THE YEAR FOR THE 2018-2019 SEASON FJSC UNDER 15 GIRLS’ JETS.
The team had shown outstanding loyalty to FJSC for many years. In addition to enthusiastically attending training every week, many of the girls also helped out and played for a team a year older than themselves in order that this team could fulfil its fixtures. Sportmanship of all the squad had been exemplary and the group thoroughly enjoyed their football at FJSC. Team Manager Darren Gowling was also praised for his efforts and encouragement.
All squad members received medals. Dot Russell-Gajos, Rebecca Leech, Jess Plows, Mollie Murphy,
Annabel Gowling, Sophie Bennett, Francine Talbot, Katie Leech, Simone Jones, Jessica Dolan, Liberty Murphy, Karen Hall, Lily Hall and Anna Johnson. Team manager Darren Gowling also received a much-
deserved medal.
THE GLYN MASON MEMORIAL TROPHY FOR FJSC’S PLAYER OF THE YEAR FOR THE 2018-2019 SEASON CALLUM DAVIDSON (FJSC Under 14’s)
Callum has been a member of FJSC for ten years. During this time he has played Inter Club football regularly in his early years at the club and has been a very important member of his Representative team for eight years. Sometimes as captain and always as a leader Callum has driven his team forward with great enthusiasm and an abundance of skill. His efforts together with a determined squad of players, completed the 2018-19 season with winning the cup.
Club Chairman Frank Rourke, in his closing remarks congratulated all the award winners and thanked everyone for their attendance. Children sadly leaving the club were wished the best of luck and those returning next season were thanked for their continued support of FJSC.
