The new Shell Petrol Station, Spar and Greggs is now open on Formby bypass

After closing its doors on 13th May last year at the Weld Blundell site, the brand new Shell Euro Garage on the Formby bypass is now open! Incorporating a beautiful Spar shop and a Greggs Bakers.

There is a 10-pump petrol filling station with ancillary retail and very soon, a drive thru cafe/restaurant Starbucks along with a new bowling green clubhouse and improvements to the existing bowling green. Over 45 jobs have been created through the development.

The Starbucks Drive-thru is not complete just yet. Starbucks Corporation is an American coffee company and coffeehouse chain. Starbucks is the third-largest fast food restaurant chain by number of locations in the world (29,324).

The new garage on Scaffold Lane off the Formby Bypass is owned by Euro Garages who also own the Esso Garage at the other end of the Formby Bypass which incorporates a Subway and a Greggs Bakery, recently had a refurbish and is outstanding in every way!

Euro Garages was founded in 2001 by brothers Mohsin and Zuber Issa with the acquisition of a single petrol filling station in Bury, Greater Manchester. Since then, Euro Garages has established itself as one of the UK’s fastest growing and most recognisable forecourt operators, with an expanding portfolio of around 360 sites located throughout mainland UK.

Alongside an innovative approach to roadside retail property, Euro Garages has forged high-profile relationships with nationally and globally recognised retail and convenience brands, now operating in excess of 67 Starbucks drive-to and drive-thru restaurants, 50 Burger Kings, 153 Subway sub-stations and 104 Greggs bakeries.

A planning application was submitted to Sefton Council for the demolition of the Weld Blundell Pub on the Formby Bypass and to erect a 10-pump petrol filling station with ancillary retail and drive thru cafe/restaurant along with a new bowling green clubhouse and improvements to the existing bowling green. According to the EG Group, 45 jobs will be created through the development.

As far as we are aware, the bowling green cannot be removed as it was originally gifted by the land owner so it will remain and will be improved.

Completely demolished on Sunday 16th December 2018

After closing its doors on 13th May 2018, the 19th century building later known as the Weld Blundell Pub on the Formby bypass was demolished to make way for the giant Euro Garage.
