National Trust invites members of the public to play a part in the future of Formby Point
The National Trust is inviting local people to play a part in plans for the future care of the Formby coast. Events are being held in June where people can come and comment on ideas for future facilities at Lifeboat Road.
Formby library will be hosting a display between the 15 th and 22 nd June and there will be an opportunity to speak to members of the Formby National Trust team on 15, 18 and 22 June. The National Trust has asked four architects to generate ideas as to what new visitor facilities could look like and how they could fit into the coastal landscape.
Countryside manager at National Trust Formby, Andrew Brockbank, said: “Over the coming years we will work to improve nature conservation, build relationships with the local community and improve the experience of those visiting the site. We are delighted that the community has shown support for the concept of facilities at Lifeboat road, and we hope to be able to offer visitor toilets and a cafe.
We are going to continue to work closely with local people, community groups and environmental organisations to ensure that any changes meet the needs of all those who love the area, while protecting the natural habitats and wildlife.
Consultations were held across Formby last summer helping to shape proposals for looking after Formby’s much-loved beach, dunes and woodland. The suggestion of improved visitor facilities at Lifeboat Road received strong support with many local people and regular visitors welcoming the idea of toilets and a café at Lifeboat road. Over 250 conversations with local people were carried out, and views expressed by the community have been published in a report which is available on the Formby National Trust website.
The events in June will be looking to gather similar feedback and are being held at the following dates and time: Saturday 15 June 10.00-14.00 Thursday 18 June 13.00 – 17.00 Saturday 22 June 10.00-14.00 Other consultation events planned for 2019, as well as other ways people can contribute, will be publicised on the NT Formby website: www.nationaltrust.org.uk/formby and social media accounts.
