Formby man known by so many has sadly passed away
A devoted LFC fan who died days before seeing his beloved team reach the Champions League final was a "true gent" said his heartbroken wife.
Matt Henderson, who was originally from Formby, was diagnosed with cancer of the oesophagus in September 2017, after he noticed he was struggling to swallow food.
The 43-year-old dad was then dealt a further devastating blow, when doctors told him the cancer had spread to his liver and lymph nodes and was inoperable.
However, despite the heartbreaking news, Matt was determined to fight the cruel disease, telling his loved ones “I am going to have to fight this now, I can’t let everyone down”. And it was due to his strength and positive spirit that he fought on - after initially being given just eight months to live.
There was huge public support to help him with treatment and his family and friends had raised over £200,000 which went towards specialist treatment.
Matt finally lost his battle on May 2nd at Woodlands Hospice. Following Matt's death the remaining amount was donated to the hospice.
Matt was originally a Formby lad and is known by so many and was . His funeral is today, 14th May at Our Lady’s in Formby.
