The new McDonald’s in Formby will be opening its doors at 11am tomorrow- Wednesday 17th April. McDonald’s Formby will be the largest UK Drive Thru site with 279 seats inside and an additional 44 on the patio area. It will be one of the first in the country to have digital drive-thru menus. The world-famous fast food chain will be opening its doors on Wednesday, April 17th. Works have been ongoing at the site on Altcar Road, which was formerly occupied by MJ's Steakhouse - a 24-hour drive thru, which unexpectedly closed its doors in 2016. It will feature 'the latest innovations from McDonald's' - including self-service kiosks - and will be one of the first in the country to have new digital menu boards at its drive-thru. The 279 seat restaurant will also offer table service. Other digital features in the restaurants include free to use tablets and mobile phone charging points. There will also be an outside patio seating area, a soft play area and an arts and crafts space. McDonald’s Formby will be offering Barista coffee and is one of only 4 McDonald's in the UK to do this!

The new restaurant, which is located off the Formby bypass just by Tesco is owned and operated by franchisee Mark Blundell. Franchisee Mark Blundell said: “I’m thrilled to be opening a new restaurant in Formby. I look forward to meeting our local customers and I am pleased to be expanding in Liverpool.” "I’m pleased to be able to offer more choice as to how people enjoy their McDonald’s experience with this new digital restaurant.” Following a campaign from Formby Labour councillors and the town's MP, a light-signalled pedestrian crossing will be installed near to the restaurant. Cllrs Nina Killen and Catie Page, and MP Bill Esterson, wrote to Sefton Council in June to request that a light-signalled pedestrian crossing be installed on Altcar Road. It is not yet known when works on the new crossing will begin.
